its a TRADITIONAL update....that is the helmet we wore in the 50's

Sorry, I'm not old enough to remember the 50's. You have your opinion and I have mine and reasonable people can agree to disagree.

No, it is 10 major programs that have Nike contracts working with Nike on this promotion.

Not sure how this is relevant, but congrats.

Sorry, celebrate the first nc team with their uniforms

Not a bad idea.

But this is nothing more than the beginning of a UNIFORM CHANGE.

Completely and totally WRONG.

I would assume that LSu stands to make a large sum of money from agreeing to this promotion. I really don't understand how anyone can believe this is the start of a change of the traditional LSU uniforms. This has been done many times before.....

For the people who say only shitty programs do this...

Florida had throwback unis against Bama' in 2006. I beleive that was right before they beat us and went on to win a title.

Texas had throwbacks week 1 of the 2005 season...they won a title.

Oklahoma has worn throwbacks before.

Big fricking deal...the team doesn't play based off of what they wear.

We've worn 4 non-traditional uniforms since 1995 and it did not result in a major change.

ETA: Actually it was 5 times.

Couldn't find picures from the game where LSU wore purple pants or the game against Vandy when they wore the gold jerseys.

Michigan changed their road unis recently.

Well, Rich Rodriguez added the maize stripe recently to make the program his "own" but the fans are rebelling and forcing him to change it back. I suppose that most young people like their schools to change uniforms because they have little sense of tradition since they have only been alive for 18 years, not realizing that LSU has had the same uniforms for 53 years. The new uniforms are not really a "tribute to the teams of the 1940s", because LSU never wore all-white uniforms in the 1940s--I assume that LSU is making the change strictly because of money...i.e. Nike is probably giving them free uniforms that LSU will probably later auction off used for thousands of dollars and encourage the fan base to buy this style of jerseys to bring in even more money.

I agree with all of this, but I think you can respect tradition even if you don't mind veering in another direction for 5 out of around 170+ games. I would never want to see LSU change their uniforms permanently, but if this puts a lot of money in the bank for LSU as a 1 time thing, I'm all for it. Some people need to realize bland is a hell of a lot better than this

There is no site I know of with a better collection of historic LSU helmets (reproductions) than Helmet Hut. They'll make one for you too!

LINK

note the helmet Y.A. Tittle is signing. Click on that link for details.

Saban was given a complete set of all the throwbacks.

Actually I don't know what rock you've been hiding under for the past year or so but it's a freaking recession and the LSU athletic department is having to fund even more crap then it already normally does so actually we do need as much money as possible and yes we do need all we can get anybody who thinks otherwise just doesn't grasp the situation I dont' think.
