LSU needs to flex non-existent muscles and get NOLA or Bossier City to host tourney games

The SEC has started to emphasize basketball but for some reason the SEC doesn’t seem to give a rats arse about hosting 1st and 2nd round tournament games in the southeast to benefit their teams like the ACC, Big East, Big 10, and Big 12 do in their regions year after year.

LSU might be a 2 seed but has to go 10+ hours away at the minimum which makes it difficult for fans and for the team themselves having to travel far.

With LSU’s rise in basketball (and hopeful staying power amid the current situation) LSU needs to put pressure on the SEC and in state schools to host 1st and 2nd round NCAA tournament games. Tulane and New Orleans is a clear option as they host about once every freaking decade, but Louisiana Tech can host games in Bossier City in the CenturyLink Center as they have for women’s tournament games. The ability to play tournament games in your home state would be a huge boost to LSU. Even getting the SEC to step up and host games in places like Memphis, Houston, Birmingham (RIP 2003) would help.

It’s frustrating looking at future sites and seeing the closest ones 12 hours away. To compete with the big boys you have to use every advantage they’ve created for themselves.

NOLA has hosted NCAA and SEC tournament games a bunch. NOLA just hosted the Final 4 a few years ago and is scheduled to again soon. SKC has hosted 1st/2nd round games on multiple occasions.

By a few years ago you mean 2012. And the next time is 2022 so an entire decade between.

Great for them for hosting the final four once a decade. That doesn’t mean they can’t host 1st and 2nd round games every year or every other year like some locations do.

New Orleans Arena hosted 1st and 2nd round games in 2007 and 2010. They hosted a regional final in 2011. I think the statute of limitations for them getting credit for trying to host tournament games has passed.

It’s really a decent arena for a place like the Shreveport/Bossier City metropolis. 14,000 seats, pretty clean. I’ve seen a few concerts there.

Agreed boat. After our champion Will Wade is cleared it is time to take the next step as a program. First we started investment with the recruits, next is investments in facilities and securing regional sites.

To do this consistently you need local and state politicians working together in lock step. NOT HAPPENING in this small minded political state where BR is jealous of Nola, and Nola jealous of BR on various topics.

Looks like the Alleva, F King, and Board of Supervisors paid fart suckers are lurking and trying to beat down any idea that benefits basketball and makes them have to do some work.

Pretty sure the SEC recently put a long term contract in place to hold the tournament in Nashville.

The NCAA will never, never, NEVER host Men's Tournament games at CenturyLink.

Take a look at the upcoming roster of hosts. The only venue scheduled to be used that holds less than 14K is Spokane, and that's because the amount of useable venues in the Western Region is more sparse. (Not to mention that the Spokane metro area has double the population of Shreveport/Bossier.)

Never.

The NCAA has their opening round games every season in an arena smaller than CenturyLink.

Spokane metro is 560k. Shreveport is 440k.

I didn't include Dayton Arena because I don't consider the play-in games to be part of the Tournament. Pretty sure most would agree.

Apologies for the misunderstanding.

Oh, and just for funsies: which venue has hosted more Final Fours than any other.

Here's a hint.

We hosted more often back in the day because there weren't many useable domes (NOLA, ATL, SEA, IND, MIN)

With the recent proliferation (PHX, DAL, HOU, SA), it means there's going to be longer rotation times. It doesn't have anything to do with the SEC not caring about hosting.

Viejas Arena in San Diego hosted 1st and 2nd round games in 01, 06, 2014, 2018, and will host in 2022 and seats 12,400.

Taco Bell Arena in Boise hosts often and will host in 2021 and seats 12,600.

Dunking Donuts Center in Providence hosts often and will host in 2021 and seats 14,300.

New Orleans has hosted multiple Final Fours and gets 1st/2nd round games from time to time.

This year Jacksonville and Columbia, SC are both hosting tournament games and those cities are SEC territory.
