Dude I'm not old enough to have been there. I agree it doesn't look good on LSU. I just think people get their feelings hurt too easy. Example you apparently.

I haven't read the thread but here is how I remember it. We slept on the ramp and when Laettner, Hurley, Coach K etc. came in they walked under the ramp to that entrance to the right of the L Club and looked up at us and the crowd was chanting crap and Laettner flipped us off.

One of my fraternity brothers sat near me and chanted that stuff. But it wasn't just that game, it was basically every game where the other team had a good white player like him or Rex Chapman. That game was probably just the worst. That big arrogant a-hole from UF got it hard too in that era. The gay slurs flew freely back in the day. I remember being embarrassed because it was so unimaginative, especially since Duke was so creative. LSU-style insults were bottom-feeder, low IQ crap. A few years earlier 1979-1981 the front row fanatics were a lot more creative and genuinely funny in their humor, but it slid through the 80's and cratered in the early 90's to that gutter-level stuff. It was still fun as hell though, that idiotic stuff aside.

this is the appropriate response. best articulated yet.
to you sir.

i love that you say that even at the time, you thought it was crap. gives a little perspective.

my feelings aren't hurt. i couldn't give zero fricks about the mouthbreathers in this thread. i can't even say it devalues my degree, because i don't use mine.

the point is that on selection sunday, a nationally renowned documentarian aired a documentary in primetime about a player and matchup between two of the best athletes in college basketball history. LSU fans SHOULD be at most upset at little at least peeved.

and instead of that, i got five minutes of video footage LSU fans seeming like bigoted, homophobes, and my hometown coming off as a backwoods, podunk country palace instead of the capital of a state.

And when i bring it up, everyone ls is like "so what? what was the big deal?" shows how little it's changed.

What's so funny about this thread is that Karma wants to judge and ridicule everyone...but it's about free speech. So Karma is calling me/us "classless", a "fricking dolt", but yelling homosexual is too much. 22 years ago there was not the giant gay sentiment out there, and it was a completely different culture. It wasn't a big deal at the time, decades change and people do with it.

Why? Can't change something that happened 20 years ago, why get your panties in a wad? Just seems like a lot of energy on something that doesn't matter.

my targets are fricking dolts and classless people who bring this upon themselves.

are you homophobic?
do you think the chants were a good thing to do?
do you think calling someone a "fig-got" represents LSU well?"

if the answer is no, shut the frick up.

and when decades change, people usually admit what they did was wrong.

you're like a german who defends the holocaust.

I can gurantee you that i have 0 homophobic tendencies on me. Would live with my gay aunt and her wife during summers in seattle and considered her a greay friend till her passing. Been to gay clubs multiple times and get pissed at certain rights not being afforded to them.

And i had 0 anger at a clip from 23 years ago. I laughed at how stupid it was and that was it. if anyone is embarassed by that then they are putting too much stock into something like that being who are they are. And if someone looks at a tape 23 years ago and think that rep the whole region
1)they are the real mouth breathers
2)they thinkclips from the 60s south is how we ll are as well

Gay people dont need you to pick.up a cause from 23 years ago...the cause has been fought to where that no longer socially acceptable

apparently it still is. as evidenced by this thread.

weirdly, those on this board seem to only want to celebrate the good parts of LSU history. like a championship that happened before they were born.

Well hell lets, shut the whole fricking school down.

It's something we all hear 23 years ago... now replayed on ESPN, (when other schools were doing the same) & 23 years later, you are offended.

oh in case you didn't know the title of the show...

they picked ours.
not offended that they did it. you miss the point.
it's a little black mark on our history.

more offended that the sentiment still exists.

A quarter century ago, it was barely in poor taste to yell something like that. If it had been today, there would've been an investigation, anyone spotted would be expelled, and the student section branded the most awful people in the country.

understood and agreed.
still no less embarrassing.

The guy just provided you specific evidence as to why it's not as embarrassing as you purport it to be. It's a chant from college kids in the early 90s. I can assure you that people that would have any opinion of LSU won't have their opinion altered by this. I can't imagine having the emotional instability to get that worked up over a non-issue like this. It'll be okay, man.

read through it again. i only targeted people echoing specific sentiments.
anybody else clearly articulating perspective and sentiment, i appreciated it.
