Weren't the 10% reduction in visits and limits on phone calls added by the NCAA and not self-imposed? They're relatively minor, but they are new, I believe.
LSU imposed 1 year of that. NCAA added one more year

Here is an excerpt from the Rivals article about the "new" restrictions:
quote:
There will be restrictions on phone calls to recruits this year. Normally one call per week may be placed to a senior recruit in September. No member of LSU's football staff can make a phone call to recruits during the first week of this September.
During the next three weeks in September, the staff may use its one phone call to a recruit in only two of those three weeks. Only seven of the nine assistant coaches can be used to make phone calls during that week. Coach Les Miles can make no calls to recruits during the entire month of September.
The NCAA imposed a penalty in which LSU's official visits for football will be reduced by ten percent in 2011-12 also. Therefore, LSU will have fewer than 40 official visits this year.

So if we get a violation in the next 1-5 years are we less fricked? But still kind of fricked?

Charles Robinson aka the Angel of Doom, says this is just the beginning.
I'm nervous.
I haven't seen that anywhere. Robinson hasn't tweeted anything about the situation since the findings were released.

Will this prevent LSU from winning an NC this year? Seems like some voters may hold it against us.

Why would it? LSU self-reported that a DT that never saw the field received extra benefits and the coach that provided those benefits was taken off the road as soon as it was uncovered and "resigned" following that season.

More clarification on LSU's scholarship numbers, per Rivals.
quote:
In effect, LSU already has served its punishment regarding scholarships, having limited itself to 83 total scholarships during the 2010-11 academic year. That means the Tigers will be playing with the maximum 85 allowed scholarships in the 2011 season.

@CharlesRobinson
Timing of NCAA's LSU sanctions suggests:
2. NCAA has a second investigation ongoing into LSU

That was prior to the findings being released and conjecture on his part.
As I said in another thread, the NCAA would not have announced this today if they were not satisfied with the information provided by LSU roughly two weeks ago regarding their relationship with Will Lyles. If there was any doubt regarding improprieties between LSU and Lyles, then the NCAA would have likely kept the case against LSU open and could have, in theory, pursued the lack of institution. It also explains why the normally glacial-paced NCAA was so proactive in speaking with LSU regarding the Lyles situation, as they knew that they were about to release the McCarthy/Hicks findings.

you wont hear espn reporting this, they are too busy making this a bigger deal than it is... they make it seem like we are in the same boat as USC, SMU, OSU, etc...

Damn! I was just reading how lsu and vandy were the only two sec teams who had not had any major violations since smu got the death penalty. Vandy wins!

If the Patrick Peterson recruitment stuff comes out while LSU is on probation, does that fall within the umbrella, or is that not counted against your probation, as it happened some time ago?
I don't think so, and it proves that Miles managing clocks is a good thing.

I always wondered who actually paid for the apartment Hicks was staying in
You know McCarthy didn't pay for it out of his pocket, but somebody paid for it
