There have been 32 head coaches at LSU. First game was in 1893 against Tulane LINK. Head coaches from Louisiana:
Edmund Chavanne 1898 and 1900. Coached 5 games (3-2).
Gaynell “Gus” Tinsley. 1948-1954.
Jerry Stovall. 1980-1983
Coach O. 4 out of 32. I believe this is Coach O’s dream job. It’s not a stepping stone to a better destination. He loves Louisiana and LSU. I don’t think he will let this program drop off because, he is passionate about this place. It’s home. Very different than head coaches from Ohio and wherever. It’s good we have one of us coaching the Tigers! He will be here until he decides to retire. Best time to be a Tiger

Coach Stovall was just as much Louisiana as Ed. He had retired from coaching but stepped up during a terrible time and took the job with a staff he didn’t select.

They had a chance back when but he’s smart enough not to leave a team he has going for a dumpster fire like USC.

I dont Think O is all LSU to his core, but I do Think he loves Louisiana and will be here as long as well have him.

I tend to agree with you. He didn't like LSU went he came for college, and transferred to Northwestern State.

His ties are to Louisiana, not LSU.

Not everyone in Louisiana is an LSU fan. (Much to my eternal dismay.)

I think USC is gonna be pretty good this year so I think Helton will stay but they'd go after Meyer first.

Also USC doesn't really have the reputation as a program that backs the brinks truck up.

No he isn't. He just wanted to see if he was cut out for the NFL, he wasn't, he realized that. Has been at Bama ever since. His next stop is retirement and broadcasting.

Ed Orgeron is not leaving LSU for USC under any circumstance. They could offer him a fully guaranteed lifetime contract for a trillion dollars, and I would bet money he's turn it down.

Yea, I have no problem admitting I was wrong about Coach O but it hurts me to my core to admit that Alleva made the right hire in the end. He still fricked up that coaching search given what his initial intentions were BUT I'm glad he fricked it up.

Don't get caught up in that. Look at the rewards of being wrong. You don't have to give Alleva all of the credit if you don't want. His coaching search was tainted IMO, I think he wanted to just show his arse to all the boosters and anyone trying to tell him who to hire(Jimbo). Ultimately it worked out for us. Our coach isn't an a-hole like Jimbo, we are the natty's for a full year. We just had one of the top 3 teams of all time. Be glad about that.

I've made big career-changing mistakes before too. I don't fault him for wanting to coach in the NFL and I damn sure don't blame him for admitting it wasn't his cup of tea. He would've come back to LSU if he could have but he couldn't. The Bama job opened up and although they are one of LSU's biggest rivals, they still are a huge historical powerhouse and I don't blame him for taking that position when he did.

Is that even true anymore? He was clearly right to have more confidence in O over Gundy, Taggart, Fedora, and all the other secondary candidates. It could've been handled better with the media but Herman certainly was at some fault for that too.

Do I think O loves LSU? Yes

Do I think O will leave LSU for another school? No

Do I think O is a lifelong to th ebone LSU fan who always wanted to be the LSU head coach? no

He said he was a USC fan growing up.
He dropped out as a student.
He coached for decades at other schools and actually turned down positions on LSU's staff.
People called USC his dream school when he was their Interim.

You can say what you want, but look at Ensminger. He literally is the opposite of all those things. LSU fan growing up, played at LSU, took a TE job at LSU and never once put himself ahead of the school.

On a sliding scale of Nick Saban to Steve Ensminger, O is definitely on the Ensminger side of things. But he doesn't love LSU like E loves LSU.
