LSU has had a live tiger since 1936. Why has he missed every game this year?

Mike roams and puts on a show for students walking to class and alums with little kids. This is the same tiger that hasn’t felt like attending a single LSU football game all season. Traditionally, Mike the Tiger will get into a trailer and sit outside the opponent’s locker room on the field as an intimidation factor. And it works.
Former Alabama defensive end Marcell Dareus was terrified of it when he made the trip to Death Valley in 2010.
“That thing, that thing scared the life out of me,” he said at the time.
But this is the first season the mascot hasn’t attended a single game. Les Miles wishes he would though. During his weekly radio show Wednesday, the LSU coach offered an idea.
“Looking for volunteers to shoo him into his travel carriage,” Miles said. “Four to five slow-moving adults need to encourage him into the cage.”

it comes down to why do we even have a tiger in the first place. if you think its for us to torture, then you want us to shock him into his cage and surround him (and his sense of hearing which is 5 times stronger than ours) with 100,000 screaming drunks.

Because we have a pansy Veterinarian/Tiger handler that thinks the stress that Mike goes through 8 games a year for being paraded around the stadium will take to much time off the tiger's life. Boo Hoo. Cry me a river. Mike needs to be coerced into that damn trailer with a rack of lamb and the fans deserve to hear him roar.

Because Mike is smart enough to know if he gets in that little cage he will be stuck in it for way too long and have to listen to 100k people screaming at the top of their lungs, which cause human ears to ring. I fully suspect he sees that cage and thinks to himself, "they are out of their damn mind if they think I'm getting in there."

If a laboratory animal wont perform in an experiment, do they just let him continue to eat and live out his life in the comfort of his home?
A little encouragement wouldn't hurt, like a special treat in his trailer to entice him to enter. To just say, "he doesn't want to go into the trailer" and leave it at that, is dumb! He is the freaking mascot of a football team that helps support the university academic mission ($7,000,000 per year). C'mon Dr. Baker. Get him in the trailer!

They are in the process of raising more money for Mike's habitat. I hope they don't get a dime until Mike shows back up at the games.
