Maason Smith is special. He’s got that combination of freakish strength and speed

in the spring game it was obvious how much quicker he got off of the snap. he was across the line before some even started. he is going to force double teams on almost every play. we all know that this is the type of thing that opens up the game to everyone else on that defensive front.

I get this point because it's said and stupid but what does it have to do with LSU's current stacked dl that BK had nothing to do with?

If the DBs come together fast in this defense it could be sneaky good as in national good. If the chemistry on this football team meshes fast they can really surprise even with a brutal schedule.

Agree but who can blame them. We haven’t shown anything yet.

The damage Orgeron did to the program won’t be fixed overnight

How many of those DL were recruited by Orgeron?
How many players were on the team when he was fired?

Similar ro Wade, don't you think?
He had a loaded team, he was fired. The players left.

BK is rebuilding the FB Team.
McMahon is rebuilding the BB team.

There is a common denominator there somewhere.

Glad to see the group get the press they deserve.
Don't sleep on Wingo either, our SOPH (All-SEC FR) transfer.
Relentless, RELENTLESS DL play!

But I was told we weren’t a top 60 team? How is this possible?

While I love this position group could be dominant they are just 1 group. The most important position and Oline and DBs are going to determine how good of a team this will be.

Gotta give credit to O…the man couldn’t coach a damn after 2019 but he sure did recruit a hell of a Dline

We have the best DL in the SEC and it’s not even close

Yep. Remember what UGA's DL did for them last year? Remember what Clemson's DL did for them when they all came back their senior year? Those are the type of units that will win you big time games. Elite talent and years of experience. Remember Auburn's staunch DL in 2019 that was the only team to keep LSU under 30 points?

People don't understand that LSU has a defensive unit that could finish top 10 in the country if they stay healthy.

That 39 number is a little off. Several players couldn’t participate due to either grades, suspensions or Covid.

That comes back to the coaching staff, too.

And when you break down the 10 guys on the list, of the other 6 (meaning players not at LSU), the only clear "upgrade" for us would be either of the Byrons Young over Ali Gaye.

Otherwise, we have the best edge rusher (and I don't think it is close). Sure, Jalen Carter would be nice, but we have Roy and Smith (and, hell, Smith could turn out to be the best defensive player in the nation in 2022 - just so very much upside), but otherwise we clearly have the best DT tandem.

I'm excited to watch these guys play.

Unfortunately, the success of a football team is more often defined by its weakest unit than its strongest. I hope we can find some success in the secondary, and I'm hopeful that lining up against this DL every day will make our OL better.
