Does anyone else sort of miss those days? We were so good, football was so emotional, we had terrible games and great ones and things were always, always exciting.

It feels more like a pro team now (so does most of the SEC, and CFB in general), and it feels less exciting. I still love it, I still follow every game closely, but something about the '90s was special. Maybe it was the growth and the promise every team had.

I'm not hating on today's team, or tomorrow's team, at all, but does anyone miss the roller coaster that was the '90s?

Are you thinking of the same 90's as I am? "Good" isn't an adjective I would use to describe it. More like "Black Hole."

We won some big bowl games, and it was fun to be a giant killer for a while. We had some amazing talent and upset some great teams.

Three winning seasons, three bowls-two minor, one mid-level. Two Top 25 appearances. The 90's were a bad dream I'd like to forget.

Year Overall SEC Coach Bowl Final Rank
1990 5-6 2-5 Mike Archer
1991 5-6 3-4 Curley Hallman
1992 2-9 1-7 Curley Hallman
1993 5-6 3-5 Curley Hallman
1994 4-7 3-5 Curley Hallman
1995 7-4-1 4-3-1 Gerry Dinardo Independence Bowl
1996 10-2 6-2 Gerry Dinardo Peach Bowl 12
1997 9-3 6-2 Gerry Dinardo Independence Bowl 13
1998 4-7 2-6 Gerry Dinardo
1999 3-8 1-7 Gerry Dinardo

All I'm saying is that A) We were better than our records indicated and B) It was a magical time.

Classic case of nostalgia. The 90's were garbage for LSU football.

Nostalgia isn't inherently bad, and not having a great team doesn't mutually exclude an exciting program.

Oh, the Vandy game where we had to return a blocked extra point to preserve the win was exciting, I'll grant you that

I don't miss getting consistently beat by Florida, never beating Bama in BR, and praying for a bowl game with a marginal record.

Dinardo was great and then he hired Tepper. Still probably the best hire for lsu fans of all time. Had we not hired tepper I doubt we hire saban and the rest is history.

Only years that come to mind like you're talking about are 2000-2003. Especially 2002 then 2003.
After the natty it's not been the same. Too much expectation.

If I was to pick a year or two that defined LSU football in a nutshell, I'd pick 2000-2001. Those years were an exciting time to be an LSU fan.

ETA: throwing out the obvious of 2003 Bc that type year only happens once in a blue moon

We, as a fan base, always seem to rally around good QBs - the last time I felt that "excitement" was Matt Flynn's senior year.

The 90's were like a bad dream. The 80s at least had some good in them but even the late 80's were tough. To me the low point was loosing at home to USM in 93 with Hallman as our coach.

While always excited about the games, you knew 70% of the time we had no chance to win. If the rant existed back then it truly would have melted down and be no more today.

It's different now because we expect to win all our games

Back then, we had much lower expectations, and beating Florida was a big deal

now, I expect to beat UF on a regular basis now that Meyer is gone

I will never forget jumping around my parents basement on one leg(other foot had a cracked bone) after that win.
I think I danced around for a full minute or two. OU might of been the only time since.
