I understand somewhat what you are saying
e.g:
-The big wins over Georgia and A&M in the early 90's,
-The close loss to Fla.State,
-The upset at Shama in '93,
-The chance for a bowl bid at the end of 93 (and subsequent loss to Arky)
-The three straight winning seasons and bowl victories in 95-96-97
-The upset of #1 Florida in '97
-The shutout of the Toothless Teabaggers in '97
-The hype going into '98 with the three best RBs in the nation - #5 preseason.
-DV going nuts when we beat Vandy on that long fumble return.
-Todd Kinchen
etc...

Back then the fans were more passionate, and the students were more into the game.

half the fans didn't even showed up. we were lucky to get 60,000 for most games. and the most passionate thing for the students would be fights in the stands.

Expectations were more reasonable then which made it more fun. We were like Ole Miss fans basically.

Well, Ole Miss is taking applications for fans who are just "there for the atmosphere". I'm sure you'd fit right in.

Anyone who agrees with OP needs a lobotomy.

I agree with you. The 90's were more fun in a way. The excitement of "this is our year to win 8 games" is what made it so fun. You're right, we had good years and we had horrid years but overall, the thrill of beating an Auburn or an Ole Miss was quite exciting.
Now we get our excitement from "this is the year we go all the way". We've been spoiled but I'm not complaining!

Those that you highlighted were mentioned in keeping with the theme of the OP - the 'rollercoaster' emotions and somewhat lower but hopeful expectations we experienced at times during the '90s.....

WTF? We were only good for a two year stretch and then the bottom fell out again.

Right, which made the fact that we went 4-7 pretty excruciating to watch. The worst part about that year is that we lost 3 games by 3 pts. or less, and 4 games by 6 pts. or less.

The defense had an absolute meltdown, cost us a winning season, and Dinardo his job after long.

Anyone who thinks the 90's were fun for LSU football didn't live in the 70's & 80's

Worst decade ever. And I'll defend GD as the real start of the revival of LSU football but he also almost destroyed it again with Lou tepper and bob McConnell

Horrible times to be kind

Curley Hallman (The west upper deck in TS was named "Curley's Corner" - there was even a sign).

Scored over 70 against Arky State.

2-9 record one season (91?)
blown out in TS by Florida 56-3 (TS was basically empty in the 4th qtr).

Interception game at Auburn
Ended Alabama's 30 something winning streak in Tuscalooser.

Dinardo
Bring Back the Magic
Beating Auburn with the INT in the north endzone.

Beat Saban's MSU team in the Indy Bowl. LSU fans were so excited to go to the Indy Bowl.

1997 beat #1 and defending NC Florida in TS. (Best game ever in TS)

Lou Tepper
Dinardo's downfall.

Beginning of Rantards on the "Tiger Roar" message board.

It definitely was a decade of the highs and lows. And those low's were really low.

Makes you wonder what would have happened had we kept Morris Watts and Carl Reese. And if Cecil the Diesel had just put in a VHS tape.

Nothing against GD cause I actually like the guy but no way does he take it to the next level like Saban did

I just don't see that. But if those three things had happened everything today would def be different
