Isn’t Jake Phillips the Mike? And whoever takes over for D White the Rover

Jacob Phillips was the Mike last season because he was the next best ILB, but his speed is more suitable to the Rover position. Back when Tyler Taylor was on the team, Phillips was practicing at Rover behind Devin White, and Taylor's bulk had him at the Mike. If things do not work out with Michael Divinity moving to ILB (and they didn't two springs ago), then Patrick Queen would move back from F to Rover and Phillips would return to Mike.

Brooks and Starks are the most interesting freshmen.

Stings and Ika are getting on the field right away out of necessity. Brooks and Starks have some studs in front of them. But they are really really good.

Marcel Brooks is gonna play more than a typical 3rd-stringer. I think it will be hard to keep him off the field.

At first, I was surprised to see that Brooks--who was a great OLB in HS--was listed as a Safety. But he also played WR in HS. I suspect it will take him some time to catch up with the other Safeties as far as playing coverage, but he could be an immediate backup to Jacoby Stevens at the "Quarter" position whenever they run with that formation.

If he is healthy I think Monroe would be the best option at safety, closely followed by Harris. I would play Stevens closer to the LOS as an F-back.

LSU will start a Quarter (Stevens) instead of F (Thornton) in a 3-3-5 look they developed last season after losing Chaisson.

Please tell me our NT position has more depth than a true freshman and a sophomore who still has a lot to prove. That seems like a red flag to me.

When needed Fehoko will slide over like he did last year, and Logan will come in at DE.

And that is going to happen a lot.

There are three games that I can think of where we will need four NT to rotate in.

Alabama
Auburn
Florida

Two NT over 340 lb simply can’t stay in the whole game.

Shelvin is a 3rd year sophomore and came on strong the last half of last season

Ika looked like an immediate contributor based on this spring

Dont think there's anything to worry about there, it's a position that's not even on the field but maybe 50-60% of the time. We play a lot of 2-4-5 based on alignment of other teams and pass downs.

Travez Moore and Jeryl Cherry will soon be added to the list of busts for the 2018 class.

Moving guys to nt that really were not built for that, is exactly what would get our dline into trouble last year. You have an end playing nt that isnt really built for that and then replacing that end with a guy that wouldnt be starting if you didnt move the starter. It was a lose lose. Really hope we can get by with only 2 legit nose tackles. Hopefully shelvin can really take a step forward.

This is because Shelvin was terribly out of shape or they never would have put Glen Logan in as a starter. Their best 3 DL were Lawrence, Fehoko, and Logan because Shelvin couldnt stay on the field and Ed Alexander's knees couldn't make it through a full season starting.

we don't need that many...if you can't play more than a quarter of a football game then you need to get in better shape

Would Travez Moore really be a bust? I thought it was just a filler signing because O lost out on the big dawgs.

When I first heard that LSU signed a 6ft4 safety I thought we might have another Kam Chancellor...but no ...Grant Delpit is something completely different
