re: LSU defensive starters in Texas Bowl and number of starts

Baker and the LSU coaching staff weren’t ready to coach this game. Baker is a decent defensive coordinator who didn’t coach well in this specific game. His sample size is enough to say he will do a better job going forward and he will need to. It was not a good performance, but I’m not getting too upset about a meaningless bowl game. It’s certainly your prerogative to point out they weren’t prepared any way you look at it. Blake’s performance next year is what matters.

The only thing that matters is Blake will have to produce next year and going forward. Shanks thinks Baker won’t produce going forward. He obviously doesn’t think Baker is a good coach. That’s fine. Who cares?

I don’t disagree that what matters is next year and beyond. My point to Shanks and others calling Baker trash is what has he done that makes you think he’s trash? This game missing your best players should not be held against him to the point that you think he’s trash now.

Since he took over this defense has made incremental improvements each year going from literally one of the worst in FBS under House to I believe top 25 this year in every team defensive statistic that matters.

Why would I believe that trend won’t continue and potentially improve with an offense that can score and give the defense breaks? Because they didn’t play well against Houston without their best players? Shanks is being disingenuous trying to say we were not without “starters” however you want to slice it up semantically, they didn’t have their best players on defense last night.

False! I said we have plenty of players with enough starts/playing time under their belt along with all the starters that played, to defeat a middle of the road offense. Yet they were embarrassed!

LOL you still don’t understand. LSU had more than enough players, talent, playing time to win and not get manhandled by the 64th ranked offense. Boohoo that there were opt outs! Good coaching overcomes that. Especially with all the starters from this year and last year and last years bowl game. Zero reason to have looked like pure dog crap! Couldn’t stop a nose bleed!

You have to give a percentage of the defense’s struggles to the offense’s inability to give them rest. No doubt.

Last night’s D and its coordinator needed a Kiffin-like O to win a track meet. Our goal should have been to force FGs, not give up the big play. They failed. Not one extra helmet we brought got home.

I counted one play made by a LB last night. You have to give Weigman and Nagle credit last night. They attacked our weakness much like Kiffin did. I choose to think Baker is going to do well with Kiffin being able to prepare him in where and how they are going to attack.

Also by identifying those that are mismatched, and providing the roster talent that will reduce those mismatches
