Any type of points per play is an inferior metric though IMO

You can look at the points per drive here

You can also compare prior years and see net points per drive.

Agreed, I just couldn’t find points per drive anywhere.

I’m glad you posted a follow up to your previous thread. I’ve been genuinely interested in how things would look later this season. Thanks Bro!

But we have a terrible defense. Fire everyone.

They can’t. We can get 3 good quarters out of them if they are pumped (look at the Bama game). That’s the max they can go before getting exhausted. This is where depth becomes so important. If we had quality depth at several positions, we could rotate and keep everyone fresh for an entire game. It’s just not there this year.

Our depth across the board on D is better or no worse than it's been since Aranda arrived.

Of course. Figured I should since my previous one was (justly) criticized for how early it was.

So does the PPD stat account for the 'degree of difficulty' to get points per drive?

For example, an offense starting at its own 1 yd line will have a more difficult time scoring points than if it began at mid-field.

While what you said is true, the starting locations of drives should average out throughout the year

If it were possible to have it account for what you’re saying, it’s way above my nonexistent pay grade.

So based on the link, LSU is 32nd in DPD this year, 26th last year, 34th in 2017, 5th in 2016.

This year the following are DPD leaders

1 Clemson
2 Ohio State
3 Georgia
4 Utah
5 Iowa
Other notables
9 Auburn
11 Alabama
19 Florida

Interesting info in that link.

Thanks for your work.

Just wanted to understand its limitations.

I can see where score differential is also a factor as time on the clock.

We better find some defense for next season . It is not the offensive scheme but the QB that makes the scheme work and the receivers. What rank is our defense that is what he should report on . Ohio state I maybe wrong but they are ranked #1 on defense

This sentence makes anything else you said irrelevant. How can you possibly know this?

Not good considering the defensive talent we have. No way our depth and talent is around 30th in the nation the last 3 years.

It’s not. But I don’t think anyone has been saying our defense is where it should be. I was just pointing out that the sky isn’t falling.

I do think we will play much better the next 2 games bc we match up good with Georgia’s offense and will be pumped up to beat the hell out of A&M. I’ve always believed in DA even though I’ve been critical. I just expect better from our defense and wish he would just be more aggressive.
