But the Joey Heisman billboard a few years ago wasn't out of compliance?
As far as I know, Heisman campaigns do not violate NCAA rules.
Marketing products with the likeness of players and/or names or jersey #s threatens their amateur status/eligibility tho.

Same thing as the Jefferswag stuff in preseason.

I'm just glad I got one of the HB4Heisman shirts TJ Ribs were selling @ CLMs show, before LSU compliance shut them down

That's my understanding too, but Nike was clearly using Oregon & Joey Harrington to market Nike products. Just not sure what the difference is.

If a student-athlete's name or picture appears on commercial items (e.g., T-shirts, sweatshirts, serving trays, playing cards, posters) or is used to promote a commercial product sold by an individual or agency without the student-athlete's knowledge or permission, the student-athlete (or the institution acting on behalf of the student-athlete) is required to take steps to stop such an activity in order to retain his or her eligibility for intercollegiate athletics.
Honey Badger is not his name. He's in the clear, we're in the clear. They can't do this. They can send you a letter, but in terms of the law, they can't make you stop.
So...hey LSU, STFU!

It's not LSU; it is the NCAA. LSU is just trying to protect Tyrann's eligibility.

Dude. People weren't directly making money on Joey Harrington's billboard. Different situation.

They're not saying any laws are broken. Just potential NCAA violations.

Remarkably similar to the NFL's crack down on mom and pop stores selling Who Dat merchandise

What took them so long? I guess the Heisman nomination woke them up.

Does this mean my customized NCAA LSU jersey is outlawweedd?

They can determine eligibility though. It would suck to see him suspended for idiots' pursuits of the almighty dollar by marketing shitty products such as this.

I hope most of our fanbase isn't this shortsighted & ignorant. Anything w/ his likeness or jersey number is off limits. Would you wanna risk the single greatest season in LSU football history so some jackass can make a few bucks on HB7 shirts?
I'd rather LSU compliance shut down anything that may be a little fishy. Send cease & desist 1st, ask questions later.

I'd send them a letter back telling the LSU compliance nazis to go phuck themselves
