Advocate just reported earlier that Wade has replaced the Yale game with Winthrop. LINK

This is due to the Ivy League postponing of all sports being played this fall.

LSU will pay $90k for the game; but that’s only if it occurs and there is 100% allowable seating capacity. The amount is prorated for smaller amounts if LSU is required to have smaller seating capacities. (Smart contract)

Winthrop plays in the Big South. They were 24-10 this past year and were the regular season and conference tournament champions; so they would have been a Tournament team if it had been held. Their last tourney appearance was in 2017.

Looking at their roster from last season, they only lose 2 players; but it was 2 of their best players. Overall though, that means they should be competitive for our game and in their conference again this year, which is a boost to us.

I think the only thing they don't know is who the Big 12-SEC opponent will be.

Think we have a good shot of getting Kansas at home. Kentucky is already scheduled to play Kansas earlier in the year and Tennessee playing Kansas last year. Think it's gonna come down to us or Florida. We will host either KU, WVU, TTU, or Texas who will all be preseason top 25 teams most likely.

LSU currently has non-conference games scheduled with Hofstra, ULM, North Texas, Louisiana Tech and VCU as well as the Holiday Hoopsgiving showcase and the Gotham Classic tournament in December. In regards to the two tournaments, LSU also knows which teams it will be taking on first, playing USF in the Hoopsgiving showcase and Syracuse in the Gotham Classic.

I guess you can now add Winthrop to the list.

Another article states LSU will play the first part of a home and home with Houston @ Houston this year

VCU will be a home game. I expect the Big 12/SEC game to be a home game as well. A quick analysis of the potential matchup there (using past history as a guide) seems to suggest Kansas could be the opponent...but obviously that's not been announced. (Kansas is already scheduled to play Kentucky this season. They played Tenn. at home last year, and LSU should get a home game after playing @ Texas last season. If they try to evenly match the teams based upon projections, Tenn. or LSU would probably be the potential matchup)

Florida played at home last year. So they would likely go on the road this season. The other SEC contenders (Bama, Auburn, Arkansas) all played at home last year. It's almost assuredly between LSU and Tenn. if the past trends are followed.

The idiot media (Thamel, Vitale, Wolken, etc.) would have a field day if LSU plays KU since both programs were some of the biggest names wrapped up in the basketball scandal.

Overall, we as fans should be pretty pleased with this year's schedule.

We get 3 exciting home games: VCU, which has the Wade connection and still recognition, plus with how the game went down last year; Houston, which has become a very relevant program in recent years under Sampson and has given us 2 great games; and then whomever our Big 12 opponent is, as even if we don't get KU, we should still get a top team considering our status in the SEC the last couple years and what is projected for this coming season.

And then there are some good to solid road games, especially with playing a brand name like Syracuse in NYC.

We were also supposed to have USC as a home game this year before they bitched out. I guess they were replaced by Mercer according to the Advocate article stating that's what Rothstein reported back in March.

I've put this together based on what I've seen so far. They should have a couple of home games associated with the Gotham Classic but I don't know who those are.

11-10 UL-Monroe
11-13 at Houston
11-17 North Texas
11-21 Winthrop
11-24 Louisiana Tech
11-29 VCU
12-12 USF - Holiday Hoopsgiving (Atlanta)
12-19 Syracuse - Gotham Classic (NYC)
12-27 Hofstra

We play at Houston again? I swear we’ve played at their place 3 years in a row.

We played there in 2018, but they played in the PMAC in 2017 and 2016, we played there in 2015.

Actually a pretty nice annual OOC rivalry of sorts. Plus usually a very good mid-major.

They come back to the PMAC in 2021.

They return an excellent team that finished ranked last year, only lost 1 senior who averaged 4 points/5 boards, returned everyone else except a transfer who was irrelevant last season. Kelvin Sampson has done a great job there.

Dejon Jarreau and Brison Gresham will be seniors this season there. From McDonogh 35 here in LA.
