look at rivals.

Louisiana is not a top basketball state.

Louisiana is a top baseball state and a top football state.

decent but not "top" basketball. the OP premise is not true at this time in history. The OP premise of LSU being a top basketball program based on 70 years of analysis is like saying UTk is a top football program, because back when only white boys played in the SEC UTk was on top. Things change.

Geeze, is this really being posted after a win? After exceeding the win total of all last year? When anyone with common sense can see the program is turning? With Gathers now having love for lsu?

you people are really something. wanting a coach fired because you don't go to the games. you make his job that much more difficult by not going and by bitching about him. however, your to stupid to know it.

If I gave a crap about the game of basketball I would agree whole heartily with you.

Basket ball at LSU is behind two other sports.
Just not priority.
Sucks I suppose for the enthusiasts.

sucks for the spelling bee,

All-Time W-L record is hardly the end-all sophisticated measure of a program for all-time ranking purposes.

I agree most whole heartedly! I was responding to the original post by Springlake. His statement was as follows:

quote:

think the Athletic Administration has a decision to make. LSU is 2nd to only Kentucky if you look at the entire history of SEC basketball. I know Florida has been impressive since they got Donovan, but for all of history, LSU is 2nd to Kentucky.

I say work out a deal with Shaq for him to be an assitant coach. With him on the bench really could attract some big name players. Just a thought.

Shaq has almost ZERO incentive to do that, unless he has designs on becoming a coach someday.

only major university in a state rich with basketball talent.

Have you followed basketball in Louisiana lately? It's pretty bad right now. Next year's best basketball prospect in Bridgewater is seriously considering a career in Football instead.

You have got it right. Louisiana has not had a lot of great prospects lately. That is why it takes time to build a program. You get one or two of the best players from in state but then you have to go out of state. Look at our latest recruiting class. Hickey from Kentucky, JohnnyO from Mississippi and only Issac from LA.

Can anyone name a point guard from Louisiana that would be better than Hickey? How about a big man better than JohnnyO? Is Issac in their class? No way, good defense and athlete but no real basketball skills.

a trick i have considered in terms of making attendance greater for basketball at lsu, & other low attendance sports is to take the plunge & make non-football game attendance a true points system earner for regular season football tickets AND SECCG & bowl game priority.
i know they started something similar to it in '04/'05 towards the end of my college days but it really didn't have much follow through.
the marketing & promotion needs to be there. create the atmosphere of a college social scene. utilize social media like FB & twitter. and for the love of God drop concessions prices.

i know it's impossible to convince the powers that be to make these changes, but with boasting how much the LSU Athletic Department makes it CAN actually make more by spending some time & $ promoting new systems & getting more people in the stands.
college kids are practically broke, gotta give them free & cheaper on-campus athletic spectator opportunities & make it an enjoyable experience for them. otherwise, we'll have the big lulls with everyone bitching about it.

He did win a national title. Tubby's problem is he's old.

Tubby to many has not met expectations at Minnesota. He had surgery for prostate cancer a little while ago and supposedly he's told people that Minnesota is his last job and his wife prefers being in MPLS versus a town like Lexington or Baton Rouge.

I miss the days of Daddy Dale in the 80's and 90's when the PMAC was packed to the rafters and rocking. The ppl who says LSU fans don't support basketball didn't live thru them days. LSU doesn't have to be a dominate program either. They just need to win 18 games a year and be competitive every night and the crowds will come.
I remember almost 30k people in the Superdome to watch us play Texas. Can you imagine that now?
