I think the Athletic Administration has a decision to make. LSU is 2nd to only Kentucky if you look at the entire history of SEC basketball. I know Florida has been impressive since they got Donovan, but for all of history, LSU is 2nd to Kentucky.

As an alumnus, I am embarassed by the state of the program. The sight of the PMAC only about 1/4 on national TV is disgusting. Trent might be a good coach, but he doesn't have the personality to bring the program back. This program has the potential to fill up the PMAC on a regular basis and make $$$$ for LSU Athletics.

LSU needs to go out and get a BIG name. In order to do so, they need to pay BIG $$$$$$$$. When I say big money, I mean top 5 $$$ in the country. I guarantee we could get a big name if the price is right. LSU is a sleeping giant with its history and its status as the only major university in a state rich with basketball talent.

Big coach salary attracts Big time coach which attracts big time talent/recruits which attracts big time crowds which leads to big time profits for the athletic dept.

Just a thought. The current state of the program is just plain sad.

I agree with everything except that we're historically the 2nd best in the sec. I'd say we're behind arky and possibly Florida.

i think we need a coach that can keep the big recruits from leaving. i could be a coach at powerhouse high school program for all i care.

i don't keep up with high school basketball so i don't know who the powerhouse HS teams in the state are.

It's in horrible shape with no light at the end of the tunnel, imv. Our players are substandard to SEC standards, and to LSU standards.

I hope the AD isn't willing to settle for the basement.

well, arky has only been around the sec for 20 years. Florida has only been significant in the last 15 years.

I disagree on one point, and that is Louisiana is a talent rich state. Yes Louisiana does produce some top notch talent from time to time but its not a every year thing. I do agree with everything else in your post. I miss the days of Daddy Dale in the 80's and 90's when the PMAC was packed to the rafters and rocking. The ppl who says LSU fans don't support basketball didn't live thru them days. LSU doesn't have to be a dominate program either. They just need to win 18 games a year and be competitive every night and the crowds will come.

a big name can come in bring in a couple of big time recruits and get this thing back on the right track after one recruiting class. this is basketball, only 5 players on the court, it only takes a couple of high school all americans and some role players to fix this and add some excitement to the PMAC.

Here are some names. Before you say no way, I am saying that LSU makes them one of the top 5 paid coaches in America

Mark Few- what he has done at Gonzaga proves the guy is a great coach.

Rick Pitino-one of the best in the game; may be looking for a new challenge as he hasn't had overwhelming success in the big east. he could bring in some great players and dominate the sec with kentucky.

Tubby Smith-pretty big name and would come for good money. LSU is a better job than Minnesota.

Tim Floyd-He hasn't been good at the NBA level, but he can flat out coach and is a good recruiter. He was not found to have done anything wrong in the USC scandal.

Brad Stevens-The best young coach in America. Looking to make the next step.

We have some good talent now, JOB getting hurt crushed us. I agree we need a new/inspiring coach. Hickey is a young potentially all-sec PG, JOB is another potentially awesome PF. Problem is our 2-guard is 5'9, I love him but he's tiny and he's inconsistent. Our SF is probably our best scorer but is also streaky and not very quick so can't create his own shot. We also have a crappy offense, and that's coaching.

I definitely think with some of the resources we've put in lately that if we got a high profile coach we could get recruits.

how do you pay for additional expense? with additional revenue. Spend money to make money. Ask Bama if they regret throwing millions at Saban. Ask Kentucky if they regret throwing millions at Calipari.

I think Floyd would come here without question. He has strong ties to the area and he didn't want to follow Brady.

the reason i asked is because LSUs athletic department is self-sufficient....was wondering if they'd be willing to shell out that kind of money for a basketball coach.

Do we want Floyd? I'd rather a younger coach with a larger than life personality. I can't really think of anyone with that mold, though.

If I gave a crap about the game of basketball I would agree whole heartily with you.

Basket ball at LSU is behind two other sports.
Just not priority.
Sucks I suppose for the enthusiasts.
