Returning Starters: (2016 Avg.)

Duplantis - (.327) as a freshman, who i assume will be moved to CF
Beau Jordan -(.286), LF
RF - TBD
Reid - (.286) as a freshman, 3B
Robertson - (.324) SS, preseason All-American
Freeman - (.329), 2B
Deichmann - (.288), 1B, finished 2016 on a tear. Has scary power to both sides of the field
Papierski - (.242), C, can get on hot streaks, above average defensive catcher.
Romero - (.297), C/DH, he and deichmann have the most power on the team

Other notables:
Bryce Jordan - (.293), can play anywhere you put him, can also step up big when we need him to.

Pitchers -

Jared Poche - returning for his senior year. Seasoned vet.
Alex Lange - 1st team all-american as Freshman, preseason 1st team all-american in 2017, best pitcher in the country.
Hunter Newman - most reliable guy out of bullpen.

Last year our biggest issue was experience, and it showed early on. We got better as the year went on because our young guys became battle-tested. This year those young guys are in a perfect spot to lead us to Omaha. Alex Lange is the favorite for the #1 overall draft pick. GEAUX TIGERS!

I look for one of the new young guys to step up. Might see some platooning early on until one of them shows consistency.

Two freshmen who will push for playing time....Smith and Slaughter, are studs.

Agree....Reed can provide utility play in a few other positions.

Mainieri said on the radio this AM that 3 frosh were in the running, Peterson, Hess, and Walker.

My guess would be Peterson based on the fall performance compared to Hess. He seems to have a little better control at this point. Admittedly, I don't know enough about Walker to make a judgment on him. I know he was his HS Football Team's starting QB, but I don't know how far that gets him in the competition for the Sunday spot.

Or when we need a single with no one on base.

Hess
Underwhelmed this fall. Got behind in the count too often. Toughest thing for a hard throwing freshman is to understand that college corners are a 3rd the size of high school corners. And when you get behind in the count, you still can't throw it right down the middle. He'll get there hopefully, but he didn't look ready to start.

Pretty sure there's an NCAA rule that says he can't ever play at LSU again

Who knows, you might have one of them turn into a Lange or a Nola. These aren't your average, ordinary freshmen. These are standout blue chip recruits

Hey, some guys are just better in low leverage situations.

I'm currently figuring out the average leverage index for our relievers last year. 24 games logged so far I think. Best performance I've logged (I'm only logging returnees) is Caleb Gilbert against A&M.
