CATCHING ROTATION TAKING SHAPE
Mike Papierski has a gun and he’s not afraid to use it.
"He’s the most advanced freshman catcher that we’ve had since I’ve been here. Even more so than Micah Gibbs,” Mainieri said. "He showed up to fall camp ready to play. His defensive skills are outstanding. If we didn’t have Kade Scivicque, he’d probably be our starting catcher.”

I don't mind Kade starting in the lineup for his bat. But it sucks that the way our lineup falls Pap can't start yet.
Chinea is really the one getting the start over Pap, because if Chinea wasn't DH than Kade could be DH and Pap at C.

Woah woah let's settle down here. I think catholictiger makes a good point. We should really all blame Chinea.

Why are we talking about bats?
Catcher is the most important defensive position and we've been fine with a sub 200 hitter there for his defense. I'm not saying Pap has Ross' defense (yet), but I don't think there's any doubt that he's the best defensive option. I think what's going on here has more to do with protecting a freshman who has never dealt with a college workload. So we bring him along slowly letting him start 1 or 2 games a week and then possibly getting him the reigns completely toward the end of the year.

Never said that Kade should start over Pap because of his bat. Mainly saying that I like Kade starting for his bat, just not at the C position.
Note: our C position wasn't horrible last year. It's kinda like Pap is a potential all american Defensive catcher, vs Kade being a solid starter but won't ever be all SEC.

Sounds like this is happening to me too. CPM has nothing but praise for Pap, but he doesn't want to put the pressure of full-time catcher on him yet. I'm fine with giving Pap time to adjust first.

If Pap is all of what CPM is making him out to be than this adjusting time needs to be done before SEC play starts.

damn yall are overanalyzing the hell out of this. PM said he's likely going to start 50% of the games right out of the chute when you include midweek.
That's perfectly fine.
That's perfectly fine.

I'm with you there. Use the non-conference to build up Pap's playing time, so he's ready for full-time duties by SEC play.

I expect the same thing that happened with Gibbs his freshman year will happen with Pap. He will be pretty much the full time starter by mid-season.

Also agree that this happens. Just hope KS or Chinea can be a productive cog in the lineup at the DH spot when the switch is made. Really anyone those two just seem like the most reasonable candidates.

Agreed. He's going to get plenty of playing time.

I like my Pap like I like my women....
on their knees in the dirt with their eyes on the balls.

Chinea may not be the best option at catcher, but it'll be tough to keep his bat out of the lineup, so I see him as a regular at DH down the road.

I'm excited to see him play the first weekend. Hopefully I don't have to wait to long. I think Kansas will be a team we can jump on early at-least in one game.

I agree. That's basically what I was saying. just giving it what I think are the reasons.
