quote:So in other words, the SEC goes like this: Alabama/Florida or Florida/Alabama, and then all the rest, of which LSU is best of the rest. Sounds like we've fallen a few notches since the glory days when LSU would have been in that top spot or two, eh?
Considering the two teams ahead of us have lost a combined 1 regular season game in the last two years and been entrenched in the top 5 over that time, maybe being ranked right behind them is as good as it gets until we actually beat them on the field.

The Tigers were seen as no better than the third or fourth best team going into the '01 and '03 seasons and they only won two SEC titles, two Sugar Bowls and a BCSNC.

Exactly. They dont remember the days before that all the way back to the 60's and 70's, heck even 80's and 90's. It's like LSU football was invented when Saban became our HC.
Nevermind the fact that being the 3rd best team in this Conference equals being a Top 10 football team.

Let's see, LSU didn't finish in the top 2 in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2008 or 2009.
So, are the glory years that brief period between 2005-2007 when the Tigers really only finished 1st in the league one year?
That doens't make much sense. I think you're glorifying the past a bit.

The glory days? Please tell me you're kidding. If you're calling the 5 year run that was Coach Saban the glory days that is hilarious!
8-4, 10-3, 8-5, 13-1, & 9-3. These were our glory days? My God no wonder our fans make other teams puke.

It happens. You can't be at the top every year...its cyclical. We're almost exactly where we were at the end of '04. We'll be back on top by the end of '11...maybe even this season if we catch some breaks.

quote:You're the one naming Saban. In my mind I am including the first several Miles years in with Saban's years from 2003 MNC forward to 2007. I'd say those were fairly close to being glory years mostly. Maybe in your way of thinking 2008 and 2009 ought to be included?

You just proved the point that you don't remeber enough or even know enough about the past of LSU football ball if you refer to the "glory days" as being Saban/Miles years. Sure, it is a winning period in history of the program. But it proves that you think we are in a melt down because you never experienced anything else. YOu should have been around for the 70s, 80s, and 90s. The glory days would have been considered the 50s and prior.
To you fans today, anything less than a National Championship is a failure. Boy do you guys have a lot to learn.

And my point is that no one remembers LSU being 4th best in the SEC preseason in 2002, ranked 13/14, ranked 4th best in the SEC at 14/15 in preseason 2003, or 3rd best in the SEC preseason in 2006.
I wonder how many Tiger fans would've fired Nick Saban at halftime of the 2000 Peach Bowl, or after losing to Ark and Texas to close out 2002.
Probably the same ones who are calling for Miles' head these days.

THey were part of it, and you can't compare the first three years of Sabans era to Miles. Saban inherited a dud.
Glory years were 03-07.

Actually , you can. Just like you can compare Saban to Dinardo.
How could Saban have a worse record vs Auburn than Dinardo if Dinardo's teams were such a "dud"?
How could Dinardo's teams have a better record vs Arkansas?
You can either compare EVERYBODY, or NOBODY. What you cannot do is pick and choose.
