First season of Mike Archer. Tigers were loaded with talent, but it was obvious from this game and most every game that season (10-1-1, and ranked #5, the best until 2003) that LSU was a mistake-prone, highly undisciplined team.

I looked back at the season records in the 80s, and found it curious that Auburn wasn't a LSU opponent each season! The Tigers only had 6 games a year v. the SEC, and five of the opponents were the same each year: Florida, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Bama and Miss. St. There was no East and West back then and the sixth opponent rotated on a home-and-home two year basis between the other SEC teams (Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee and Vandy).

Sammy Martin in particular was a Tiger overachiever, as was Steve Rehage in 84-85. These guys had the heart of a lion and would play through pain.

No, it was on last night. I caught it right when Mickey Guidry hit Tony Moss for the 1st TD. It was great seeing that last group of really good LSU players before the bottom fell out in the following years.
