we don't have nearly as many opportunities to hit into DPs than we did in 2023. When your team OBP is .432, you're probably going to hit into more DPs than a team with an OBP of .399. And if you really get into the weeds with DPs, we've hit into 27 in 49 games this year (0.55/gm), and we hit into 43 in 71 games in 2023 (0.61/gm). I don't have available to me advanced data to show how many actual chances we have to hit into DPs in 2023, but regardless the difference is negligible.

As for Ks, we've struck out 382 times in 1972 PAs this year (19.3%). In 2023, we struck out 583 times in 2968 PAs (19.6%), so while technically correct, the difference is, again, pretty negligible.
.

Absolutely true. I did look at the per-game as well (as you showed). Same with Ks as you did. It is marginal, but that still surprises me a little, though probably not as much as some on here. We have hit balls hard right at people, and a hard hit grounder to the shortstop is a tailor-made DP ball.

I think I have concluded that this team is both better than people think it is and should be performing better than it has. It's part of why I still cling to hope, probably irrationally.

Same here. I went down a rabbit hole the other day on stats b/c that's what i do. This team is very close to last year's teams offensively. BA, OBP, & SLG are slightly down. But we score almost the exact amount of runs per game as last season. It was eye-opening b/c I feel like most people here think we've been worse at our base running. Yet, we seem to be more likely to score once on base this season when compared to last year. The difference is small, but I think many fans would bet it was the other way around.

Our hitting isn't even bad. We've had specific players underwhelm, but overall as a team we've be fine at the plate. If we had just average fielding and average pitching, we'd probably be competing to host a regional right now. Sure, we've had lulls during the season at the plate, but that's pretty normal. But overall, we're the 3rd highest scoring team in SEC play this year. We've just struggled closing out games on the mound.

We've lost SEC games scoring 12, 7, 8, 8, and 8 runs.

In addition to those games, we've lost 3 more conference games where we were leading or tied in the 7th inning or later, 1 to Oklahoma and 2 to Ole Miss.

If we just found a way to win half of those 8 total games, we'd be sitting at 13-11 in league play right now with at least a path to win enough SEC games to host a regional. Instead, we lost all of them and will have to perform a miracle just to get a bid to the NCAAT.

It's wild because the only games we really stole in SEC play were two games in Knoxville. We haven't had baseball fortune on our side really all season. We haven't been on the god side of a melt down as much as you'd expect throughout a baseball season.

Game 3 of the Kentucky series where we were down 7-0 also comes to mind

Jake Brown is having a monster year. Seeing these numbers climb every week is the best part of the season.

Brown was on pace to hit 20 homers

His injury was devastating

Happy Patrick gets a chance to play but brown being out sucks nevertheless
