It could. But even if it’s overturned at that point, you won’t be able to retroactively punish a school for following a court order that was valid at the time. And by that time the season will be over.

The judge ain't saying this specific school has to let this specific player play.

So just because they are eligible (and they should be) doesn't mean anyone HAS to let them play.

Referring to protection from bodies like the NCAA and SEC from retaliating against schools for playing players ruled elligable.

It's a "Friend of the Court" brief. It's basically the Louisiana AG stating her opinion of the situation as a third party observer. It has no standing beyond that.

The other parties are threatening actions that would seriously impact LSU and thus the state. LSU football alone has millions of $ impact to the economy. It is her job to protect the interest of the citizens of Louisiana.

Out of curiosity- LSU is a public institution (LSU employees are classified as state employees). Do the threats being leveled at LSU from the SEC, for basically following a court ruling (abiding by the law), possibly come to the level of "attacking the state" or whatever? Meaning, the Louisiana government and AG would be obligated to protect a state institution from an interstate entity (the NCAA and/or SEC) threatening unlawful harm? Especially if said conference rule is written after the initial court ruling, and written in such a way as to single out LSU while allowing others (Texas being the prime example, with a player who had been to minicamp with the Cowboys) to do such things without consequence?

I'm thinking there is something in the conference bylaws where it's ensured that rules will be enforced equally for all members, and otherwise provide a fair and level field for conference members. And that the SEC is at least skating on breaking that agreement.
