But he didn't necessarily have to throw 30 pitches tonight, just one inning, hopefully about 12-15.
Still not the same as having a day off in between.

Guys do throw relief for one inning and start the next day in Omaha all the time.
Maybe, when they won't have to pitch again for another 8 months.

True, but Coach Maineri said before the game on the radio that he was pitching anybody today that he needed. He said that this was the most important game of the season, and we'll worry about tomorrow when it gets here.

Fgiord,

the GTFO gif is one of my favorites. What is the code for that?

Just kidding, but I'm not sold on the Ott is just as good as Coleman. Ott gives up many more hits. Coleman's opp. batting average is right on the Mendoza line.
Hits don't cost you games, runs do. Ott's ERA is better than Coleman's. If we weren't going to start him, I'm happy with leaving Coleman on the bench in the 10th.

The truth is that if LSU had received better starting pitching the first half of the year then Coleman would have never moved out of the closer's role.
I'll take your word for it, but if it's true then all I can say is thank goodness for shaky starting pitching in the first half of the year; because I'm pretty freakin' stoked about the season working out exactly the way it has!

+1. Two dominant starters, one dominant closer = SEC Regular Season and Tournament Champs

Thanks for the bump. It can be argued that the situation was different, but when our season is on the line I want the ball in Coleman's hands if at all possible.

This thread (especially the first 3 pages) is a huge bag of hilarity. You guys kill me sometime.

It was handled perfectly tonight. Apparently some of these guys have short term memory loss, because Coleman has pitched relief Friday and then started Sunday before. Same situation here, 1 inning, 1 day of rest, than the start.

More importantly than Coleman or Ott, great job by Ross tonight. That was just what the doctor ordered.

LOL at this post and all the other posts hating on the OP.

You do whatever you gotta do to win the 1st game.

At the time, that meant letting Coleman pitch an inning.

I love the guys who post here and think they know everything and laugh at the OP for suggesting bringing in Coleman.

Solid job guys.

Agree this thread is awesome. Everyone badmouths him and says "thank God you aren't the coach". Well I guess PM must have consulted with him or something.

I hated that I was banned during this because this thread was pissing me off.

What if the Baylor game would have gone 15+ innings? Coleman could have pitched all of them instead of having to hope questionable guys out of the bullpen can keep shutting out Baylor every inning. Then Bradshaw/Cain could have easily beaten Minnesota on Sunday. It was ridiculous that the OP was being absolutely ROASTED for posting this.

Remember that we were the visiting team and this thread was made when the game was still tied. LSU scoring in the 10th ending the "discussion" because without a doubt you bring in Ott for the bottom of the frame after you get the lead. And that's what Mainieri would have done in this situation.

Coleman would have pitched into the 14, 15, or 16, then Ott would have come in once LSU finally scored a run.

And for the people saying putting in Ott was the right call after the game was over.... No fricking duh!

LSU was the visiting team. Ranaudo was going 9 innings no matter who was coming in next. So once LSU scored a run in the top of the 10th, no shite you put in your closer Ott with the lead.

But if LSU didn't score in the top of the 10th, putting in Coleman for 6 or 7 possible innings starting in the bottom of the 10th wouldn't have been retarded like everyone here thinks. Then once LSU finally scored in the top of an inning, bring in Ott to close the game. Then Bradshaw/Cain easily finished off Minnesota on Sunday.

frick.

A very intuitive poster in another thread got me to realize this post wasn't started during last night's game.

Oops on my part.

Completely different situation. You were arguing that PM shoulda put Louis in to close that game out instead of Ott.
