LSU had an a opportunity to join the elite of college football... programs that contend for the title every year.

Despite losing almost all of its production on offense, Myles Brennan still set LSU records in his first three starts, and Finley looked phenomenal in his only start. LSU is averaging in excess of 40 points per game.

Yet LSU is 2-2 and lost to two of the three worst teams on the schedule because Pelini’s defense was historically bad. Not just below average, or bad. But literally one of the worst in the history of the SEC.

So yes. Lots of hate for Pelini’s defense. A year that should have seen LSU solidify its spot among the best in college football was wasted because he was too dumb or too stubborn to make basic adjustments against MSU and Mizzou.

Defense is still boom and bust. The D was supposed to be simplified for USC, but we still had busts. Players fault? Coaches fault? Both? I put the blame squarely on Leon.

Not nearly the amount of busts we were getting. They weren’t busting zone coverages. Just getting lost in man coverage a couple of times.

From Malazahn

Challenge of LSU pass rush against your new look offensive line… “There’s no doubt it’s going to be a test. I think they’re leading the league in sacks and they have two guys who can flat-out get after the quarterback, especially on the edge. We’re going to have to do a really good job whether it’s scheme or whether it’s situational. When they pin their ears back and they know it’s pass, they’re very effective and impressive watching them on film.”

On LSU simplifying its defense… “I think you’ve seen that their defense is fine. They’re better each week. They do have a bunch of young guys, new guys, so just trying to get that experience, but they’ve seen that the last couple weeks, they’ve improved. We’ll see what their plan is, but they definitely have improved.”

Don’t waste your time with the miserable pricks in here. The haters held it in all last season and they have to get it out now. They’ll be back to stroking O’s dick soon when we win another championship.

If USCe had a decent QB and a kicker, they would have scored 40.

They had WRs running open all over the place. He either missed them or made a bad throw. Give them Finley, and it is a close game.

As for the run defense...yikes.

Was it better? Sure. Still a LONG way to go.

This week, our defense will see motion and misdirection. Based on Missouri, I’m guessing we will be lost. I don’t know why some DCs can teach players how to neutralize all that window dressing, but our players don’t seem to know how to do that.

We should be 4-0 right now. Sorry that you like the product that’s been putting on the field clown. Guys still running wide open in the secondary. Run fits still not being filled and the edges can’t be contain. How about the missed Fgs that South Carolina missed? They could’ve easily scored in the 30’s if they make those. Keep on sunshine pumpin tho!!!!

fans for both the NFL and College... if your team is doing bad it's a wash year. but if it is doing good, then everything counts as normal.

You don’t have to be Nostradamus to know that Bamas O will humiliate our D unless some miracles occur.

Did they not improve last week and hold a team to 24 points? Was I dreaming?

Yes, they did in fact improve. However, they still allowed a BAD South Carolina offense put up 7.9 yards per play.

If that's got you optimistic then more power to ya but the fact is that the defense is still abysmal

They were second to last after 3 games in passing defense

You are correct. There really is no such thing as a dominant defense anymore, you just need a decent defense to make some key stops. Games like 9-6 are in the past.
