Honestly. Cbb come down to talent. If you have a 6'10 power forward that can dunk on everyone on the court , other coaches aren't saying, " damn why didn't I draw up that play?"

this. winning basketball is a lot more about talent than it is coaching. coaching is great if you have a guy that has a system he recruits to like Duke or some of the other schools. Then there's guys like Calipari/phil jackson/spoelstra that just load all the top talent and win championships without really being a great x's and o's coach

At the time I didn't think much of the Jones hire but, wisely, I said nothing.

How many teams have been to the Final Four in the last six years? How many SEC teams have been to the Final Four AT ALL?

I disagree with most of that.

Ditto.

lol I don't think Trent picks up Coleman or Carmouch and Hammink was fifty fifty.

Didn't say he would have gotten Carmouche. But you miss my point again. Whether or not Trent would have gotten Hammink or Coleman is irrelevant, he left. Those kids both wanted to come here and if it weren't Johnny I think most any coach we had chosen to hire almost certainly signs them.

quote:

Del Pietro was really bad last year. Not worth being on the roster bad.
If you saw him at the start he was even worse than that. I got on Trent about alot of stuff and rightfully so, but I think ADP would be the first to tell you Brad was part of his development to where he is today...that and hard work

quote:

We probably beat a few cream puffs early on. Especially if JOB gets hurt for that stretch as well.
My opinions is that after the Christmas break we underachieved. Yours is that we were terrible, and JOB3 was crippled, so anything we did was o.k. and acceptable in that context. We disagree.

quote:

ETA: and for the record, I believe Dale's last team wasn't nearly as good as its awful record. lol
I agree. That team was historically bad. As were Trent's 2nd and 3rd teams. This team as assembled was never nearly that bad. Heck if we take your unlikely hypothetical and assume that without Johnny we start the year with only Hickey, Stringer, ADP, Morgan, JOB3, Eddie and Courtney, that's still better than any of those 3 teams.

My initial point in this discussion is not to bash Johnny but to defend the choice to say when the team stinks it up and to **gasp** question Coach Jones if warranted, even in his honeymoon year and even if he's better than Trent for LSU...which unquestionably he is.

The last two games have been great. I hope to see more of that than of the first 4 SEC games and even A&M for that matter, where our half court offense was offensive.

TJ would be getting his arse handed to him right now and we all know it, had he not left.

We would probably only have 2 wins actually. Hickey probably would have transferred.

Why is that depressing? It was a underwhelming hire. People were expecting a big name and may have been disappointed at Jones. Doesn't mean fans can't support CJJ

I think it's absolutely understandable how the hire was received. The fact that there was a good ole' boy faction ramming it down our throats and smiling at us while doing it did not hurt either.

But none of that matters anymore. CJJ will have plenty of time to prove himself. I for one hope he does. I like him and I have extended family who are very close to him back from his days as an asistant.

But it will be years before we can really judge that.

But we can have our opinions along the way and certainly we all will.

Our fans didn't even give him a chance. Speaks miles of how LSU fans really are.

Seriously. Now the people who were skeptical about a Sun Belt coach who had a conference record 3 games over .500 are NegaTigers too.

We have been fortunate. Because if you think he would have have even been a finalist if he wasn't connected, you're fooling yourself.

No matter how it turns out, I as a fan, know that the head coach wants to be here and his desire to win is for more than money. He's going to give 110% to make us great.

Trent seemed disinterested last season and his motivation was a paycheck. That pissed me off more than anything I saw on the court in his 4 years.

Not sure if one my quotes was listed there but I was a huge Debbie Downer on the hire. But, I'm on JJ's team now. I love his enthusiasm, his passion for LSU and honestly some of the effort this year even in defeat.

I am very glad that he is on the path to proving me wrong.

Then I started reading what the N Texas people had to say about him.

I liked him from the beginning, but this is what really got me excited.

It's funny because the entire pre-season and now UNT fans have been laughing at us because of how down people were on Johnny Jones. They couldn't understand the panic and negativity. Even when we were 0-4, they were like calm down, CJJ will right the ship like always. And after upseting Missouri it was kind of an "I told you so" on their boards

Kind of like Gene Chizik.
1) Most Auburn fans bitched about the hire.
2) Auburn won the natty, and some needledick Auburn fans started taunting the ones who bitched.
3) The wheels came off and Chizik got fired.

Lesson: Who knows how this will turn out. Don't be a needledick.

Nothing at all like the GC hire. You kidding me?

JJ is killing the recruiting scene compared to Trent and JJ doesn't have a 1 man team that Carries everyone. When hicky leaves he will be replaced. The problem with can and tebow, when they left they couldn't be replaced. Urban and chiz built their offense around irreplaceable guys.

How did we feel about Trent at this point into his first season?

I hope JJ succeeds. I also don't want him to be our Bill Guthridge. However, he has earned our respect and goodwill.

You just compared a football coach who had a .208 winning percentage (20%) at his prior stop to a basketball coach that consistently had 20 win seasons, finished at or near the top of his conference each year, and had multiple tournament appearances.
