LSU could have avoided overtime and won in regulation if one or two of the following things occurred:

1. Days not fouling out with two minutes left.

or

2. Guarding the three closer and conceding the two.

LSU has an issue with guarding the perimeter. As a team they simply don't have the lateral foot speed to defend some of the quick guards in the SEC except for three players, Taylor, Smart and Manning. Taylor, Smart and Manning can guard the perimeter tight and have enough lateral foot speed to not get beat on penetration. They are typically beat by getting screened. This is why it's so important to get Manning back.

Understanding this, Coach WW should have instructed his players the last few minutes of the Auburn game to guard the three tight and concede penetration to the basket and give up the two. With the lead that LSU had at the end of the game twos would not allow Auburn to catch up but obviously threes did.

By giving up twos instead of threes LSU could have staved off the Auburn run to tie and go into OT.

I know hindsight is 2020 but that was a game time situation at the end of the game I believe CWW would have coached differently.

One of the single biggest things that contributed to the loss was Smart missing the front end of the 1 and 1. He makes both, game was over. Just the way it goes.

Definitely should have won the game.
Then again, look at last night. Mizzou out played us almost the entire game (we did the same to Aub) yet couldn't finish. It happens.

At this point in the season, LSU playing close games is just a given. It's how they play.

How about Javonte makes free throws. Game Over.

How about inside 1 min Mays misses the first of a 1 and 1. Make one and game over.
Our best 2 FT shooters missed the first shot of a 1 and 1 inside 2 min.

If we just stop the ball on Auburn's last possession, Mccormick just waltz into an easy floater

Just looked it up McCormick was 6/29 from 3 in conference play for a cool 20.6%..... he went 5/10 against us.

How about in the last minute not missing the front end of a 1-1, or not turning the ball over, or scoring on our last possession.

We had the ball for four possessions in the last minute and scored just two points.

The fact is we played very bad during that last minute.

We make our free throws at the end of regulation. That's mine. We win and none of that other stuff matters.

Some of that might be attributable to fatigue. Mays turnover, taylor going underneath screens. mays settling for a 3 instead of driving at end of regulation. Javonte missing free throw. Lack of bodies.
