Looking back at Brian Kelly’s move from ND to LSU

Let’s look at this as people who all make our own calculated decisions for the good of ourselves and our families in the long term rather than fans who think that coaches are all driven by winning national championships.
When BK was at Notre Dame, he had around a year left on his contract, and he’s well aware of his age. The ridiculous contract trend was also peaking at that point, with none other than Scott Woodward leading the charge with a horrid contract for Jimbo Fisher, not to mention we’d just gotten royally fricked by buying out Ed Orgeron for $30,000,000.
Now, did he leave Notre Dame because:
A. He wanted to come here and win championships and work his arse off until he’s 70 years old for something he’s never accomplished and probably will never accomplish
Or
B. Because he knew his contract was coming up and he probably would’ve gotten (at best) an extension for 3 more years from Notre Dame and been coaching for his life every year, and instead of possibly being forced into retirement with nothing to show for it, he jumped on Scott’s offer to retire with $50,000,000-$70,000,000 more in the bank if he ended up being fired or forced into retirement in the next 5 years, which was pretty likely at the point whether he stayed at ND or went to LSU?
Scotty got played in my opinion

In this day and age it was not a bad idea to hire a coach who was like 52-9 his last five seasons at notre dame.
Napier looks pretty fricking average too. Who were we to get? Great coaches don’t grow on trees.

Where in my post did I compare him to Napier or anyone else? I’m just saying that the guy doesn’t look motivated, doesn’t look like he gives a shite, and had every reason to come here to chase a big retirement bag and laugh his way back home just like Jimbo Fisher
ETA: I’m not even debating whether or not he was a good hire. Simply pointing out that he probably didn’t come here to win big and be part of the LSU famulee as we’re seeing over and over

Unfortunately, getting Bryce Underwood here is going to buy Sloan and BK another 2 seasons at minimum.

It was both. I don't doubt for a minute that Kelly genuinely felt - and in all likelihood still feels - that he has a better chance of winning a national championship at LSU than at ND. Personally I don't think he will because ultimately he has never worked hard enough at recruiting, but we shall see.
But the money also has to have been a factor. As you say, ND's AD refused to extend his contract unless he won a natty, and his agent was able to get him a deal that was well worth it from an LSU-standpoint if he were successful, but an absolutely ridiculous total amount if he's not.
I don't even think it's the $9.5m per annum that was the bad part - that's around the going rate for a top coach in the SEC; rather it was the ten years with 90% guaranteed. His agent definitely saw your AD coming!

He's still recruiting so I would disagree, the moment that falls off, LSU with a class outside of the top 10 and or we start losing LA guys we shouldn't. You can his arse. The blowout hurts even though I felt it coming the moment after Reed ran up and down the feild on us 2 weeks prior. But I still like his staff minus the playcaller and think he is building something.

I liked the hire but he is a disaster now. Absolutely zero excuse for the last 2 games.

Napier is much younger , more energetic and would sign a shorter cheaper contract . If Napier didn’t work out , the buyout would be doable . BTW , his teams play hard . He put a QB starter in the NFL. His team has had a lot of injuries with starters . We will see how they play LSU .
