I like Lolo precisely because she lost.
She fell down in 2008 as the heavy favorite and she was always a longshot to make the 2012 Olympics. But she keeps working at it, and then has the setback of spinal surgery in 2011. She gets back up after that and still qualifies. She then, despite not being favored to make the finals, makes the final heat and then finishes in 4th, 0.10 seconds out of a medal. The point is not that she lost, but that she did not accept the 2008 defeat and used it as motivation to keeping trying to excel.
Her finishing 4th is a great accomplishment. It is the coda to the 2008 disappointment. Bashing her is a bit like yelling at Derek Redmond for not finishing the race on his own power in 1992.

Just herd on Espn she had surgery on her spinal chord last year!!! That is unworldly to get back in shape, make olympic team, qualify for the finals , and come in 4th Chick is legit. It's also cool she's a Tiger and a Christian.

An interesting part of all this that nobody's talking about is that Jeré Longman is an LSU journalism graduate and I believe a member of the Manship School Hall of Fame.
What's his motivation? Is there some kind of self-loathing thing going on here?
