College basketball is dirty top to bottom. We will hire a black coach and he will hopefully run a clean program and put on a good show and finish middle of the pack until the NCAA gets their shite together, at which point we can hire the best guy out there, regardless of race.

This is the line that kills me!
This is basically saying that LSU's decision makers are giving in to the pressure from the media! The NCAA has been mostly silent and not continuously hammering LSU. It's the media that's pursuing LSU's demise with an odd obsession! HMMMM?!?!
It's obvious what's happening!!! WW is out there working his arse off in the shady world of college basketball recruiting, and having success using the same tactics the "big boys" use. The blue bloods who've always done this are getting pissed, and they're using their proxies to turn the screws on LSU's administration. They're using both the media and people with connections in the recruiting world to "investigate" or more realistically blackmail WW. Using the spouse/girlfriend of a player for blackmail/entrapment through a "trainer?" Or how'd Memphis land that player? I guess he just really LOVES Memphis!
UNC can do what they did which is to cheat academically and likely pay players to secure them over other blue bloods! Duke/Zion situation, Kansas...
I have no attachment to WW as a coach other than the fact his players seem to really like him, he's landing top 20 recruiting classes, he has LSU competing in the top 5-6 teams in a major conference, and he has his team in 3 consecutive NCAATs. I think many of us agree he's not the best Xs&Os coach, but he's good enough to win a lot, especially if he can get the right mix of talent which I thought next year would be the year!!!
WW is definitely at fault though, so I can't defend him. His biggest mistake was not finding a way to distance himself from the connections to the violations. He was too involved which is probably why his players like him!
What I am pissed about is LSU is on the cusp of potential basketball glory, but the administration just rolls under the pressure while the traditional programs just stonewall and keep winning!
I guess LSU is sacrificing basketball to preserve football?

Serious question. Why couldn’t this firing have waited 2-3 weeks until after the tourney? The investigation and coaching search will be dragged out for months anyway, so why neuter the hoops team right before the tourney? (Again!)
