And expectations of a young coach for the lsu basketball program.
What is a realistic expectation for this program over the course of 5 years:
4 tournament appearances?
1 sec title?
Top 4 seed 1 of those 5 years?
Lets get a consensus.
Or am i being too easy, should Wade be expected to provide top 4 seed tourney teams 4 out of 5 years. Lets discuss.

Wade still hasn’t won an NCAA game at LSU.

Maybe you didnt understand the first post. What are your expectations for the program?
Posted on 1/30/21 at 7:40 pm to josh336
This team is vastly underperforming. Maybe you fail to see that.

I like the fight of this team. You NegiTigers can talk all the shite you want but they fought their asses off today!

according to the homers, Wade is better than Jones, so all is good. No need to expect more.

We should make deeper runs in the tournament than we have made for sure. Especially with how good we have been recruiting. Will wades not on the hot seat, but he damn well better get this team to play, to it's potential here late and make the damn tournament or he will be getting some backlash from our fans going into next season and will have his back against the wall and coaching for his future. You can only live and get by with good recruiting for so long before people start wondering if you are just a recruiter that can't coach. He needs to get this team playing to their capabilities, period.

Steady recruiting, NCAA TX Floor, Sweet 16 expectations , every few years slide into a Final 4?

Consistent tournament team

If this is the case for most, then everyone should be fine with where we are

Yes. We should expect nothing less than a sweet sixteen consistently with how we have been recruiting and throw in an elite eight or final four in there every four years or so when we have a deep, talented, and mature roster. Those are realistic expectations for our program. If wade proves that he can't get that done, then we need to move on and find someone that can and will bc our expectations should be no less. He will be coaching for his job next season I have a feeling. I hope he gets it done bc he's been through alot here and I truly do like him as a person and believe he is a good coach and a good fit, but time will tell.

What in the actual frick?!
Uh, first year he made the tourney LSU made the sweet 16.
Last year the tourney was cancelled and we were an 8 seed.
This board is so trash.

LSU needs to be consistently in the NCAA tourney with some ability to make deep runs.
Posted on 1/30/21 at 7:50 pm to P bean
What in the actual frick are you talking about? I'm talking about now dumbass. I realize that we made the tournament and made a good run 2 years ago, but that doesn't get you a pass to shite the bed with the talent we have this season. He needs to right the ship THIS SEASON and get this team playing like they're capable, bc we haven't been lately. Some inexcusable losses that can end up having us on the outside looking in come tournament time, especially with the tough arse schedule we have left in front of us. There is no reason why this team should be heading into the sec tourney having to win a couple games to be in the ncaa tourney like I have a feeling we will be facing. That's bullshite. There is no reason on this planet why this team shouldn't make the tournament this season with the talent and depth we have. Totally inexcusable. If he doesn't make the tourney with this team, he will be coaching for his job next season whether u like it or not...that's the reality. He needs to get his shite together.

Let's look at some past champions in this sport.
Tony Bennett didn't make the Sweet 16 at Virginia until his 5th season. In his 7th season, he got to the Elite 8. In his 9th season, his team goes 31-3 but becomes the first one seed to get bounced by a 16 seed. Virginia is laughed at for being perennial underachievers in the big dance. The next season, they win the title. Great coach though.
Jay Wright won his first championship at Villanova in his 15th season. He made his first Elite 8 appearance in his 5th season, and first Final 4 in his 8th season. Great coach though.
Everyone knows the successes of Coach K and Roy at their blue bloods, yet they have even squandered some absolutely loaded rosters.
Bill Self went on a ridiculous streak of winning the second best conference every season, but even he hasn't won a title since 2008.
Mark Few is also a stud. He took over a program that had made the Elite 8 the previous season and he made it to the Sweet 16 his first season as a 10 seed. They don't make it to the Elite 8 until his 16th season. Widely respected as one of the game's best coaches, but he's only made the title game once and he lost.
Scott Drew has become one of the most respected coaches and is known for one of the best rebuilds in college basketball history. He's in his 18th season and hasn't reached the Final 4 yet.
So I would like someone to tell me why people on here are ready to move on from a 38 year old coach in his 8th season as head coach, 2 of which at Chattanooga, who took over an LSU program that was essentially at rock bottom and made it to the Sweet 16 in his second season here after winning the conference. We are looking at potentially 3 straight seasons of making the tournament.
These are the same people that criticize how our offense is ugly and we don't run offensive sets like they want us to. Yet LSU is sitting at #10 in the nation in offensive efficiency, #1 in the SEC. Last season we finished #4 in efficiency. The year before, #28. Whether or not we execute the offense the way you want it to doesn't matter. Wade gets tremendous results on the offensive side of the ball.
Now there's more that goes into becoming a great coach, but just look at some of those coach examples I pulled above and tell me why we shouldn't be patient with a 38 year old coach who has been really successful here in his short tenure? I guarantee you that you would take Jay Wright, Mark Few, Scott Drew or Tony Bennett here at LSU now that you've seen the finished product of these coaches, but they didn't get there without patience from their program.

I agree with your expectations. They should be making the tournament 4 out of every 5 years and winning the SEC or SECT once every 5 years in my opinion.
Posted on 1/30/21 at 7:53 pm to josh336
19 or 20 win seasons, regular NIT appearances, qualify for NCAA tournament every 4 to 5 years. LSU is a football/baseball school. Basketball is just a fill in sport between those sports.

Excellent post, i was about to post Something similar but without that detail. What coaches in college basketball are elite while in their 30s? That list must be extremely small. Coach K, scott drew, few, bennett, etc have all become elite coaches over time, they have to re-tool their philosophies throughout their career. Is this fanbase not going to allow will to do the same? Or did we all say we wanted a young up and comer coach, but not willing to live with the growing pains?

How about that we finish somewhere in the same hemisphere as our recruiting rankings (top 5 class 2 of the last 3 years)?
