So the point of this post is to highlight just how good this defensive staff is in not only preparing the defense but also the adjustments they are making at halftime. Spoiler alert: it’s remarkable

LSU gave up 17 points to USC in the second half, with 7 coming in the waning seconds and in effect losing the game.

Since then, though

Team Total/second half (OT)

Nichols St. 21/7
USCe 33/9
UCLA 17/0
USA 10/7
Ole Miss 29/6 (3 in OT)
Arkansas 10/3

Out of the 120 points scored against LSU in the last 6 games, only 35 of those points have come in the second half and overtime. They are giving up, on average, less than a touchdown in the second half while giving up 14 in the first half. I’m surprised this hasn’t been talked about more. Maybe I missed it, but it seems this is a major part of this teams success so far that hasn’t gotten a lot of buzz. I just wanted to give the defensive coaches some much needed love because you can see the difference in the adjustments in the second half, where games are won.

This has been one of the greatest areas of improvement this year. Looks like the coaches are doing their jobs and getting the guys on the same page.

I said this the other day, talking to a friend of mine. We were talking about the half time adjustments made by Baker, and how few points we’ve had scored against us in the second half the last few games. It’s unbelievable

Weeks and Alexander have made a huge difference. I think those 2 have shrunk the field for Burns.

Did I miss something? 7+9+0+7+6+3=32

Even with the first game, it is an average of exactly 7 points per game in the second half.

Don’t forget strength and conditioning - our players are two years into the conditioning program. Think about all the 2nd half sacks.

Also, playing 11 true freshman and rotations keeping players fresh. We didn’t really have this ability the past two years.

I'm having Deja Vu from 2022.

LSU shut out Auburn in the 2nd half, held MSU to 3, kept UF scoreless until after LSU went up 42-21, and shut out Ole Miss.

People were drooling over House's halftime adjustments (until aTm and UGA).

you didn't add the 3 points in OT to OM. He said second half and overtime, not just second half.

I hear you. But I truly believe that LSU team had no depth and ultimately ran out of gas those last two games.

I still believe the D is a recruiting class or two away from being top 20, so the offense will need to carry us as we hit the tougher SEC schedule - starting this week. We needed 45 points per game last year, but I think 31 points per game is our target this year to win out.

I’m glad someone said this, because that’s what stood out to me the most in the Ole Miss game.

OM ran something like 84 plays, and our defense looked like they had every bit as much energy (maybe even more) at the end of the 4th/OT as they did in the 1st.

And add to the fact that freshman on the defensive side of the ball have started to play a larger role without much or any drop off! Lots of young guys stepping up.
