I personally like him...... He has done what has been needed to be done to sustain LSU as one of the premier programs in the country. He's done this by recruiting great talent, solid, heirs, and understanding how he's needed to change to stay competitive......without changing his values.
He's had kids get in trouble, but not like other schools have.
Some major programs have been in the title hunt and then fallen off the map while he's been at LSU.
I also love the Les Milesisms he uses in his interviews they're just ridiculous.

quote:I live in Bulldog, Gator, Bama, Auburn country and this is not true. First, other fans don't think Les is a 'douchebag', they think he's a goof. Yes, they like him, but no one is intimidated by him and there is no fear in the SEC of Miles or a Miles coached team. Fear and intimidation do not equal, "I like him he's a good guy". Mostly I can't tell whether other fans like Les because he's a good guy or because they feel like they always have a chance to win against Les no matter how bad their team is. LOL.
This couldn't be further from the truth, I live in the south but not in Louisiana, every single time I tell people I'm an LSU fan the other person laughs their arse off, tells me how much of a loser, douchbag bag les miles is.
That doesn't happen a few times, every time 100 percent.
Is that what a national icon is
I call bullshite on this ....I work and communicate with a bunch of people from around the southeast and at first I was very surprised that other teams fans (mostly sec) have so much respect for clm ....

I live in Birmingham, I know very few Bama and Auburn fans who don't think that LSU will be one of their toughest games every year, and a game they look forward to because of this.

I'm a fan of Miles. Perhaps the thing that bothers me most is how "cool" it is to undervalue Miles. Our fans are probably the worst, often criticizing him for not doing more with the talent that HE brought to LSU in the first place.
However, the media often has their head up their arse as well. Athlon just ranked Miles the 17th best coach in the NCAA, behind:
Petrino
Cutcliffe
Richt
Peterson
Shaw
Franklin
Malzahn
Kelly
Dantonio
Fisher
Snyder
Briles
Stoops
Spurrier
Meyer
Saban
That is a fricking joke. He is no worse than 6th and as high as 3rd IMO.

They don't call Saban Nick the prick for nothing.

Whether or not you guys want to admit it, there's a lot more to being a college football coach than wins and losses... People need to appreciate what this man does for the lives of these kids and for this university while he's here... The grass isn't always greener........... I would LOVE for my son to play for this guy
as an old guy that has raised 4 children and as a graduate of LSU, this is indeed truth. les miles is way more than a football coach and i'd take him ANY DAY over nick saban I don't give a shite how many natty's saban gets. I would LOVE for my grandsons to play for him (too late on the sons

Maybe they're just looking at in-game coaching skills.....who knows. I would not put much credence in this list. He's won more hardware than many of these coaches despite his goofy demeanor.

I'm glad he's a great guy/family man but this is a big business not a father-of-the-year contest.
it may not be a father of the year contest but LSU football is WAY MORE than a big business. if I have to explain it to you you will never get it. LSU is a university and DOES NOT FIELD A PRO TEAM. you obviously have never attended LSU. go follow the Saints. I feel sorry for you.

He doesn't seem to have the ability to make adjustments to his game plan if it's obviously not working. We all know the game I'm talking about.
However it was an offensive adjustment in the first Bama game that won it for LSU, both in scheme and personnel.
We had two offensive styles, they had both failed in the season.
To say he doesn't adjust and still wins at a 75% clip does a pretty big disservice to him and to the SEC in general.

I bet I have only met 4-5 people who even know about Miles and some of his miscues. The other 9000 just know LSU wins, and most know Miles is the coach and just assume he is a great coach, cause LSU is a great team year in and year out. Why our fans cant see the relationship between Miles and winning is kinda spooky.

I live in Mobile. None of the Gumps or Barners that I know disrespect Miles. They know that LSU will give them hell every time they play.
Most love his interviews and more than a few Gumps wish that their great gawd would loosen up a little. The concensus(sp?)is that Miles is a damn good football coach, a damn good representative of college football in general and LSU in particular, and a damn good man having fun in a pressure packed business.
The doofus that made the 100% comment is an idiot.

So because its not a pro team...its not a big business??? What are you stupid? Do you have any idea how much LSU football generates in revenues for the university? Ticket prices?? Look how much we pay the man for god's sake!!! Please don't insult my intelligence by telling me its not a big business.
Explain this to TAF while you're at it. They'll be glad to know their investments are insignificant.

Class of 84 Pops........I follow the 49ers not the Saints...sorry to disappoint. Don't need your pity.
I've already stated that I'm glad he's a good guy/ family man/recruiter and all but I'm not sure your undying devotion would be as strong if Les started averaging 7/8 wins a year over a span. Some of the same people defending him on this site would be the first to turn on him.

I disagree, his son had spotlight because of who he is and so did the daughter. High School and college kids get in trouble, it isn't a sign of bad parenting, if it was you would have thought my parents were horrible based on some of the things I did in HS and college.
Bad parenting is not laying down rules after the trouble has hit from from what I know the son has cleaned up his act and well the daughter is an adult. They may be spoiled rich kids but how is that different from other wealthy kids?

there is no "undying devotion", that's just an idiotic construct created by the haters to convince themselves "they're the objective ones". Fans support Miles because of his record, period. The nice guy stuff is just lagniappe. If he didn't have the record, he wouldn't have the support.

If how your kids turn out is not the barometer we should use to measure "good parenting", what is?

Not different at all. One's bad, and so's the other. My kids have wealthy parents, but they're not wealthy kids. They had to bust their asses if they wanted anything, and they still do. That's good parenting. The kind you described above is lazy parenting.

For the most part, Saban has brought this upon himself. He comes off as an over-driven workaholic who has no time for trivial crap like family matters. Fair or not, that's the perception. Some of this could be driven by the fact that Saban's kids were adopted. It's quite possible that Terri wanted this and Nick may resent it a little. Of course this is all speculation on my part, just throwing the theory out there.

can you read? quit putting words in my mouth. I fully understand it's a bit business and it's WAY MORE than that. the purpose of LSU football is to entertain and make the money to support ALL of the other sports but it is still WAY MORE THAN THAT. it is LSU. and how the hell you can graduate from there (if you passed reading comprehension) and not know that makes me feel sorry for you. I don't give a rats arse if you need my pity or not. and if less averaged 7 wins a year, yes, he should be fired. that is hypothetical though; i'm talking fact. not devotion. I care about winning and les fills the bill. but I, unlike you, also care about integrity, graduation rates and about how he reps my alma mater. sorry if you missed it pal.
