most of those coaches were affordable fires also. now, coaches get huge contracts with huge buyouts. hell, chollie mac left and gave back his buyout. now, the position is worth so much, guessing wrong is very expensive. i really believe that if miles gets some new offensive coaching and a new offensive coordinator we will see a huge improvement.

1st let me say I want Les to be here as long as he continues to win.
But the argument that "past hires have been awful" doesn't hold water.
That is not a reason to either keep or fire the coach. If he must go then he must but he's not going anywhere anytime soon IMO

i know, that drives me almost as crazy as people reciting that damn trite definition of insanity while thinking it's clever.

but i do disagree with the notion that Miles cannot be replaced by a good candidate. Keeping him around because you fear not finding a qualified replacement isn't justifiable.
i haven't seen people say that. i have heard that it is a risky move and stating the risks to others that think firing him is an automatic key to immediate national championships. the question AT THIS JUNCTURE is whether miles should be fired or should be retained at the end of this season. i personally think the man turns it around but others seem to disagree vehemently.

it was also pretty close to happening in '07 (when hawkins was hired)

It is easier to look like a genius, beat substandard competition, win conference championships and go to BCS bowl games at Boise State and TCU.
You don't get to the top of a profession such as CFB Head Coach without having the ego and marbles to say I'd rather take it easy and get $1.5MM than move to the biggest, baddest conference and collect $3.5MM because I'm scared I can't compete with the real big dogs.
That is completely asinine.

getting LSU to the cotton bowl wasn't the only thing les and skip discussed on the plan ride to dallas.

I would be very happy if Miles left on his own this year. I just don't have confidence in him going forward bringing home SEC divsion and conference titles.
I agree there are risks in hiring a new coach. I would rather take a shot getting a great coach that is going to get the program back to where it was before Miles took over than have 9-3 type seasons watching someone else play in the SEC title game every year.

Now do you really want to run away a coach who wins 78% of his games, recruits a top 5 class year in year out and keeps his players out of trouble and in the class room?
If Les leaves it's due to his own stupidity. The guy is getting paid like a dominant coach and his fan base does not even expect him to win West division chamionships in the SEC. Les has it made. This is a gravy job with low expectations for top money. Remember Les is making top money.

Chris Peterson who would bring OC Brian Harsin. They would whip arse in the SEC with LSU's talent. Money is the only thing that would get them out of Boise ..... $3.75 mill per year would probably do it.

Archer Record as Head Coach
1987 10-1-1 5-1 in SEC
1988 8–4 6-1
1989 4-7 2-5
1990 5-6 2-5
27-18-1 (was never a HC again)
SEC 4-10 in the last 2 years
Just a bad Hire
