Coach is one of the most respected coaches in the country by other coaches. Regardless of your opinion on him.

What people say in public, and what they say in their own film rooms and meetings are different. Sort of like what Les is doing on the national scene right now in these interviews.

Les said he wants to coach again, let's see where he ends up.

So yeah there will be schools that would hire Les.

But the contention that he could become the head coach "of almost any school in America" is a sycophantic fantasy. If he goes back into coaching, it will be at a second tier school like Purdue or UCF. No elite programs are going to hire that guy. He's old, he's antiquated, and he just got fired for incompetence.

I'm absolutely loving the delayed, sort of bizzaro melt some are having over Les Miles.

I think we have some cases of PMSD - Post Miles Stress Disorder - going on.

Yet we've got fans who think his answer is delusional? This wasn't a post game presser here. He had already been fired. He's reflecting on his career. Hell, would anyone really argue the fact that no other individual play defines Miles more than the last one against Auburn? What is delusional about that?

quote:

mean the man basically said he wouldn't want to go out any other way, and 99% of this board agrees that the last play was the most Miles play ever, so I'm interested to hear what is so delusional about his comment?

Slackster,
Miles is a great man, however he is surely a delusional coach. Just because that interview was very Miles-like doesn't mean the man isn't delusional. If your response to the final play that got you fired is,

"our team took the snap without instruction, which is not guaranteed to do (Idk what the frick that means).."

"If that play is allowed to count, we win the game, I'll take that play"

and the most egregious comment,

"a group of men that could not be denied, and except for time, should have very well won the game."

The last comment has been the epitome of Miles's failures as a coach. His delusion is the reason for not adapting his coaching philosophy and mentality.

Makes me more glad he is no longer the coach.

Then he should have prepared his team to be able to march 75 yards in just over two minutes with a timeout to boot

It was 2:56 and 2 timeouts. Dont try to sugarcoat it ;)

I'll bet you $100 he is coaching at a P5 school next season. I'm not even a Miles fan, but this statement is stupid.

Technically, but the fact that he said that alludes to the fact he believes he was fired because he lost the 2016 Auburn game. Which we all know is not the case. Not sure Les knows this though.

So what should he say instead?

Rinaldi - "How would you define the significance of the final second in the Auburn game in the scope of your career at LSU"

Miles - "I fricked up by failing to prepare my players in an adequate manner and I've always been a frick up at LSU"

As ridiculous as that would be to even suggest as an answer, if he did say it, you'd have the same people come out and say he's a shitty coach who knowingly fricked LSU over time and time again. My point is that there is no answer that is good enough for those who continue to find fault with the man, so answering in a genuine, yet 100% Miles fashion seems like a good way to go.

I don't think he's alluding to anything. He answered the man's question in a very matter of fact way, and he's right.

Les may be a stubborn arse, but he's conscious of the fact that it was much more than just the Auburn game.

There is middle ground. Where you dont sound like a buffoon. That place has always been tough for Miles to locate though.

The coaching change was necessary, no doubt. But I haven't heard Les utter a single negative word against LSU. He's been all class. You know he is going to be hurting this Saturday night. In a few years, he will be recognized at Tiger Stadium during a game and he will receive a standing ovation.
