so preseason polls don't matter? BCS guru Brad Edwards was just talking on ESPN about how much preseason rankings matter and pretty much determine which few teams get a crack at the title. He said going back 50 years, 16 teams won the title with a loss and 15 of the 16 began season in top 8. Said if you lose a game and don't start in top 8, you pretty much have no chance of winning the title. Also said AP is the trendsetter in preseason for setting national opinion for teams.

The preseason polls matter and Leslie has taken our program to a place where national respect for our program is so low that we are outside the top 20 and no one even mentions LSU.

Regardless of where LSU starts out, if they win every game, they play for a NC. That being said, I believe LSU will go 8-4 or 9-3 if they can get a few breaks.

Yeah buddy, the years he was referring to were before a time where the sec contained at least 3teams in the top 10 year in year out (for the most part) ... with wins over UF, bama, and unc with a random loss... There would be a high chance we play for the NC.. can't believe everything you hear on tv guy

LSU is ranked outside of the AP top 15 for the first time since 2000. Not since coming off of the Gerry Dinardo disastrous 3-8 season of 1999 has LSU been ranked so low going into a season. All of the national media respect for our program is now pretty much gone because of Leslie.

So for the first time in 10 years we are out the top 15 preseason poll? You do know that for the 2nd time in 50 years he closed us out with the #1 ranking right?

And do you think fans like yourself have really helped the situation?...IF YOU DON'T RESPECT YOURSELF (TEAM) THEN NO ONE ELSE WILL RESPECT YOU EITHER....in other words, STFU...

you DO realize LSU started the 2007 season ranked #2 in the preseason? Now STFU. Now 2003 was his 1 out of the 16 that started outside.

College Football Live Friday-Herbstreet picked Aubie to win the SEC west, then in the same show later, They predict Bama to go 12-0.
Makes that argument. Besides, I think We're in good position to move up quickly in the rankings with solid wins.

Herbie predicted Auburn, BRIAN GRIESE predicted Bama to go 12-0. They are two different people with two different opinions.

the point is being missed in my opinion. the polls indicate what the rest of the nation thinks of our program and team.

this team may run the table and get some of the respect back, but i agree that we have lost much of the respect the program had obtained.

all the team spirit in this thread is wonderful, but the fact remains that we have some work to do if we want to regain our national status as a top team. i hope we do that.

As everyone says, it is where you end the season ranked.

Questions to ponder:

Where did we end the season ranked last year? Hypo - where would we have ended in the rankings last year had we had competent game management and offensive play calling by our coaches?

Where did we end the season ranked the prior year? Hypo - where would we have ended in the rankings had we had competent defensive coaching and player development?

I'm sorry, did I miscount. Has LSU been ranked lower in the preseason in the last 10 years? ....Nope.

Bottomline: The LSU program has not been set back ten years. That is sensationalism at its finest.
