Don't let the fact that the Ravens defense is as lost as the city Atlantis trying to find itself after all its usual big names are gone/retired. The offense is performing better than it used to ranking in the top 15 of the NFL and setting franchise records since Cameron left.
quote:
RAVENS: Joe Flacco has put up solid numbers the past two weeks, completing 68 percent of his passes and throwing for 746 yards and four touchdowns. He hasn't been sacked in consecutive games. However, he's also tied for fourth in the league with four interceptions and he's struggled to get the team's secondary wide receivers involved. While Kamar Aiken and Marlon Brown have struggled, Steve Smith Sr. has too often been a one-man show. He has 23 catches for 336 yards over past two weeks.
quote:
RAVENS: The team's lack of outside weapons and the play of the secondary were concerns going into the season, but the run game was supposed to be a strength. Yet, the Ravens rank 27th in the NFL in rushing, averaging just 72.7 yards per game. They also have only one rushing touchdown and have struggled in short-yardage situations. Justin Forsett is averaging just 3.2 yards per carry and has only one run for 20 yards or longer. Lorenzo Taliaferro looked tentative last week.

You dumbass, the poster I was responding to was talking about the Lions. You know, the team Jim Caldwell is the head coach of now. Marc Trestman is the OC for the Ravens. Get your facts together before posting.

No. I know you're going to point out the 2007 stats, but I said "generally" shitty offenses. There have been a couple of outliers, obviously. And even in 2007 there were occasional head-scratching personnel decisions. See: Charles Scott disappearing against Kentucky.

So one trick play over almost 3 seasons now. Gotcha.

Why would a coach come in and not want to take control of his own team?
Because that's not what a good executive does when coming to take charge of an organization. Coming in and saying "it's my way or the highway" is a good way to lose the respect of the coaches and staff who had already been there.
Miles didn't hire Fisher. Fisher was already there and had a good thing going. Fisher knew the players, the QBs, and had built relationships with them. Mikes would be an idiot to just come in and tell Jimbo "I don't care what offense you run or have been running successfully. You're going to run my offense now."

Total Offense: Ravens at 10?
Which is a stat/ranking based off total yardage. Total yardage does not tell you the entire story. If you want to know if an offense is effective & efficent you need to look at stats like 3rd down percentage, redzone percentage, yards per play, points per possession & turnovers. Get out of here with a total yardage ranking.

SAMMY will you ever admit that the problem may not be the hires but the one who is doing the hiring?
Tell me who you think the best OC is the country is and I will tell you if he works for CLM under CLM's philosophy- the OC will not succeed
CLM needs to learn "hire good people and get out of their way"
He would likely have two more NC's and many other victories under his belt
CLM's problems are self inflicted gun wounds
Well Put. At this point, I don't know what quality OC would want to work for Miles.

Look, man, we usually see eye to eye, so I'm not going to continue arguing the finer points. Les prefers a particular style of offense with particular packages, that's obvious and that we agree on.
All I'm saying is that Henson is a terrible source for credibility regarding an offensive opinion and that Cameron found a way to run the offense he likes to run within the confines of the style of play that Miles prefers.
Carry on.

Example the dive toss. Nothing against the dive toss but I remember when Cam was hired he said he would eliminate the play from the playbook because there is no way to run play action off of it. 3 years later, the dive toss is still a staple of the LSU offense. But Miles has no say so, right?
Ok
1. link an article where he said he would eliminate the toss dive.
2. Where did the short side option go? THAT was LES MILES FAVORITE PLAY in the Crowton years. But Crowton goes and so does the short side option.
LINK
Article with a million article about Cam Cameron's firing. They fired a OC mid season while 9-4. They didn't do it for no reason.
Not to mention people ignore the fact that we run a different offense now than we did under Crowton. The formations are different, there are different plays. People just want to pretend because they refuse to believe those OCs were bad on their own.

The 1 WR routes out of I-tight formations...AWFUL
Extremely awful. You would think that maybe once they would pass in that formation. It's one-on-one so a hitch and go or slant could be a big play. But no, it's run into the 9/10 man box every fricking time.

Big problem I have is signin dual threat QB's to run a pro set.offense.... Pro set is run successfully in the NFL by pure passers where they mostly pass
This is where I get off. You were good until that crap. Russell Wilson was a dual threat and ran a successful pass happy offense at NC ST then transitioned to a pro style offense in 2 months at Wisconsin. Jameis Winston was a dual threat when he came out and runs a pro style offense. Blake Sims ran Bama's pro style offense to perfection last year and broke records. Paxton Lynch running a successful pro style offense under Feunte and he's a dual threat. Fuente also had a dual threat in Andy Dalton at TCU.
Then you have all these successful dual threats in a pass happy offense. You teach that guy pro style for a year or two and he'll be successful in that too (at least at the college level).

But really Les Miles hires bad OCs.
Or perhaps good OCs don't want to come here.

The fake toss was around in 1960s HS ball.
As with most successful PA, blocking sells it more than fake delivery.
LSU should set up misdirection with Power Toss and also need to run more toss sweeps to keep the freeze effect on DL/LBs.

Fired as OC at bowling Green (essentially twice: 1 time when CUM left him when he moved to Utah, and another when Bowling Green actually fired him).
Stud was the OL coach when Meyer left and then got promoted to OC. the OC Greg Brandon went from OC to head coach.

So you want to ignore the penalties & general sloppiness at times by all the units that have continued to be an issue at times every season? Are those issues all the previous OC's fault too?

Exactly. Cam has done this once before.
Antwaan Randle El
quote:
In 1997,Cam Cameron returned to college coaching when he accepted the head coaching position at his alma mater, Indiana. During his time there, the team consistently had an elite offense. Cameron’s quarterback was Antwaan Randle El, one of the most prolific and versatile running quarterbacks in college history. Randle El was the first college quarterback to both throw and run for 40 touchdowns in his career, and he owned four of the top five yardage seasons for Indiana at the conclusion of his career.
quote:
Randle El passed for more than 1,700 yards and rushed for more than 800 yards that first season on the way to becoming the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 1998. When his collegiate career was over, Randle El became the first player in Division I college football history to throw for 40 career touchdowns and run for 40 more. He finished fifth all-time on the NCAA total yardage list, and became the first NCAA college football player to record 2,500 total yards in four consecutive seasons.

He's basically a Coryell/Norv Turner guy and had some success, especially with the Chargers, but also has worked to do more with less at times, particularly when he was at Indiana with Antwaan Randle-El as his quarterback. That was pre-zone read and such, but they mixed in some pro style stuff with some true option, including triple option, and drop-back game.

This would have given both Alabama & Arkansas fits with how much they keyed on Fournette. Some split back plays where the dive could have been faked to Fournette & then tossed to Guice on a sweep could have been highly successful. I'm talking huge chunk gains or long TD runs. There would have been no outside edge containment to slow down Guice with the defenses collapsing on the A gaps off the fake to Fournette.

I think it's more the fact that Les goes after yes men or OC's with similar offensive philosophies as Les. That would also explain why the offense always looks the same.

Crowton actually assembled some pretty badass offenses at LA Tech. When he left LSU, he openly accused Miles of handcuffing his playbooks and play calling, and I'm inclined to bieve him.
