That pass was terrible. Even if he gets inside position on the corner the safety still steps in front of him and takes it easily.

After the snap, best thing Lee could've done is tucked his head and lost as few yards as possible.

This.

The best thing that could have resulted from that play was a sack, or at best getting back to the line of scrimmage, and then punt. I would have been fine with this based on the way the D was playing.

"Just like I could give a shite how poorly Karnell Hatcher played at LB."

Why did Karnell Hatcher have a scholarship to begin with, he sucked at every position he played and tackled more teammates than opponents. He cost us the game against ARK in 2010 also.

That's so much bs. He played a total of 11 plays. He was responsible for 2 firstdowns in those 11 plays. He got a bad snap, and rushed a throw. Did not see the field again for a long time, and when he did, first play they have him throwing fairly deep over the middle again. You don't like him...fine...I didn't think he was great either....but a hell of a lot better than the alternative. Just give it a rest on the hits thing.

I agree it was Les Miles fault on the 2nd interception. With Lee's history you don't run that play first play back after benching your QB. And that was the first words out of my mouth when it happened.

like those catches against UK where he bailed Lee out on questionable throws?

LINK

unless of course, you only wanna bitch about Shep, then disregard this.

I didn't see the questionable throws in your link. Wide receivers have to work for the ball sometimes.

With regards to the OP, it looked like it was a tough play for the safety to make. A lesser safety may not have caught the ball and we might have a completely different story. I couldn't tell who was more at fault, but regardless I have no problem with a long interception on a 3rd and long. You are only losing 10-20 yards from a punt play anyway.

I have more questions about the 2nd interception.

Lee's history or not...I didn't agree with running a one receiver route to the short side of the field. 3 things can happen on a play like that, and 2 of them are bad.

Not so much his history but the fact that he was coming in cold and Alabama had previously intercepted him on that very play. Think they might have been prepared for it?

Kinda reminds me of the first play in the Georgia game in 2008. He had some recent games with some interceptions that were run back, so the first play of the game they line up with no running back and call a quick pass across the field only 5 yards in front of the LOS. What could go wrong?

Pretty sure Lee was under center the whole 1st quarter except for one rush for a 1st down by JJ.

Not true. There were only 2 in 1st quarter.
Lee got a first down on a nice 10-15yd pass to OBJ and that was his only one.
JJ got the other on a keeper, then Lee threw 2 incompletes to end drive.
The other drive that quarter ended with the 1st INT.
Keep it real.

Lee was done in this game after getting Blasted well after he released the ball by Hightower. Should have been a penalty, but, didn't matter, it's effect was irreversible that night.

Yeah that's what I mean though by "benching your QB". He has a bad history and he was cold sitting on the bench, a double whammy and you run that play?

Or maybe if fan in seat number 44 section 6 row 2 had chocoloate milk instead of Orange Juice for breakfast it would have been a touchdown pass.

He is not a natural WR - he is a space player, "slash" player or whatever you want to call him. How he never made a splash in the return game is beyond me (but he gets one last chance, this year).

He would be better used as out of the backfield, moving from behind the QB, to H-back, to slot and causing the defense to account for him in a number of places. He is highly unlikely to develop into a "crisp route-running" receiver because that is not the player he is. D. Byrd couldn't do the things Shepard can do - Shepard is never going to be the route runner D. Byrd was (or Randle, for that matter). He doesn't have to be, to be a success, if he is utilized properly.

I keep hearing about this and have yet to see it.

I remember JJ getting speared in 2009 causing him to leave later, simply bc there are pictures of this play with that good old honest SEC ref watching it all happen in the background.

I remember JJ being cleared to go back in the game by the medical staff, and he didn't want to.

Or so I heard.

He might have been a lot of things, but skeered wasn't one of them.
