Has there been a thread to discuss the discrepency in the strike zone on the first pitch last night?

He was quite clever by expanding the zone for TX on the first pitch to get our guys in the hole and he narrowed the first pitch zone for LSU pitchers. The rest of the time he was equally good/bad.

Who was this guy and what is his affinity to TX?

Seemed to call a lot of very, very low strikes.

Yes, anything above 6 inches thrown by TX on the first pitch was a strike as was the outside pitch. We did nog get the same calls on the first pitch.

LH batters outside abot 4" off the plate were money. (See Ryan's ABs)

From the box score, his name is Joe Burleson. PAC-10 official.

Can't find much info on this guy.

So since TX beat ASU he wants them to win it all?

I noticed his strike zone but I didn't want to post anything because the Texas fans will accuse us of making excuses. But the calls should be reviewed and this guy should not umpire another game involving these 2 teams.

Possibly.

If they follow the same rotation they have been, possibility of it being Steve Manders. He was the plate ump for the 2nd Texas/ASU game and the LSU/UVA game. He was at 1B last night.

Serious about what appeared to be a blatantly obvious strike zone differential based on who was pitching? Yes.

Serious about the ump wanting TX to win because they beat ASU? No, that just sounds retarded. Someone asked who the ump was so I looked him up and saw he's a pac-10 guy and couldn't find any other info.

I googled the guy and all the pictures are from TX super regional activity dating back to 2003. I am sure he was treated well there and now we know....the rest of the story.

It is a shame that someone that involved with a specific school was allowed to ump that game.

It's obvious why the zone grows for TX.
Isn't everything bigger in Texas?

Actually, the guy last night (Burleson) was assigned to the Baton Rouge regional.

Maybe we were dicks to him.

Nah, our fans wouldn't do that

If the low strike is called tonight, we're in deep shite.

This was just reported on ESPN. Apparently Erin Andrews picked up a piece of paper that fell out of the home plate umpire's pocket last night and it's just making it on this afternoon's Sportscenter.
