Lane's been trying to tamp down expectations for this year

If you've been listening to him he has repeatedly spoken about building something beyond this year. He has repeated that we were 7-6 last year and that we had to 44 transfers plus a bunch of freshman making up the roster.
This was never going to be easy this year and the Clemson game was rat poison. It has been evident that Sam is not a pure QB. He can't process what he sees or trust his own ability so he holds onto the ball then bails. His accuracy has been suspect. The deep ball, long a staple of the Kiffin offense, is not in Sam's wheelhouse.
The O-line deficits have plagued us for the past 3+ years. Daniels masked some of it but it was pretty evident.
The D has some talent but our first two opponents were incapable of challenging it.
All the folks who thought this was going to be a beatdown were smoking crack. We played a team that, offensively, was loaded and experienced working under a similar system because the new OC was a former Kiffin assistant.
It's going to take time and Kiffin will have to hit on the portal this year. I don't think he and his GM, assistants had enough time to evaluate portal opportunities this cycle but that should change for this year.
I was upset last night but then I realized that this is just the beginning. Kiffin is still the right guy.

Yeah I agree.

Only thing I’m annoyed with really is Baker. Guys had plenty of time and opportunity to prove himself and he still shits the bed every big game.

Lane is going to be great there. I really believe that.

Because he knows we are week at qb and you cant win a natty with Sam. He should be a slot receiver and start getting Longstreet ready

No excuses, right? Lane is being paid a fortune, and our roster is one of the costliest in football. Our performance in the first was a disaster.

Yes - he sounds a little like Curly Hallman did. Not a good sign.

Comparing Hallman to Kiffin is akin to comparing Livvy Dunn to the fat lady in a high school cafeteria.

I don't see anyone making excuses but you don't just spend a bunch of money and run the table in year one under a new coach.

Lane hasn't made excuses. He's trying to give you a dose of reality, but you can't comprehend the point he's trying to get across.

You can have expectations and still live in the real world.

Same that crucified Kelly for making 10 Mil will be quiet on this issue. Money spent was not a “rebuilding” roster. Even Blake is making a fortune as a coordinator to not have these types of performances. It’s more than fair to be upset with a good bit of the performance last night.

I can more than comprehend what he is saying, but you have to admit that our performance in the first half was a joke. You also have to admit that it is obvious that our 50 million was not well spent in a lot of cases.

We started improving near the end of the first half. It was the first SEC start for a lot of the roster. On the road, in a more hostile environment than any other they'll face this year.

There were enormous amounts of holes in the roster and a very short window to fill them. Sometimes you end up overpaying. It's way too early to make sweeping conclusions at this point.

The biggest indicator for team success is QB play. This is my 50 yrs of watching CFB analysis.

At the beginning of the season the pundits had Leavitt around 6-8 in SEC QB rank and I kept thinking they were underrating him due to no SEC results. Now I believe they were more correct than me. There are at least 4-5 dudes out there in the SEC playing better than him right now. We play at least 2 of them this season in Russell and Kamario.

I agree! I’m expecting around 8-9 wins and I’m more than ok with that considering how many new players came together so suddenly. The program started from scratch

Pete Golding won’t be beating Lane Kiffin from here on out and won’t be out recruiting him.
