Yes, I’ve seen all the clips talking about how he talked with Saban, Carroll , and others during his decision making process.

But that was when he was being fricking dragged through fricking donkey shite by the entire sports media apparatus and was trying to say whatever he could to justify his decision and give himself at least some level of reprieve for what he knew 100% he was going to do because he wants to go down as an all time great and there was no shot of that in Oxford.

Lane has been on a mission for 20 years and it all came together last year and he didn’t need a fricking soul to explain what he was capable of building in Baton Rouge.

Just listen to any interview he gives when he talks about the way he’s looked at LSU since he first came here for a game in 2014. The environment, the LA talent, this was clearly always one of the places Lane wanted to end up.

Then you have not listened to what he says. In interviews he has said it multiple times. He enjoys going to new places, seeing new things, and inspiring new lives. That's why he takes new jobs. He wants to do good. It doesn't always work out but that's what he wants. He said he learned it from his dad and likes to carry it on as best as he can in his own way. He's telling you in so many words he's not going to stay here forever. Does he stay 10 years? Maybe, but at some point he will move on.

Well Monte traveled around the country for the bulk of his career, then, at 56, he settled in Tampa and built his legacy. He was there for 12 seasons and would have ended his career there but only left to become his son’s DC for the last several years of his career.

Nearly everything he says has to do with “building”, “legacy”, and “dynasty”. He talks about Carroll and Saban and what they built, and how he wants to do the same.

Everyone talks about the NFL, but this is so different from the Saban situation. Saban had lengthy history in the NFL, and his “mentor” was building the greatest dynasty in NFL history while Saban was winning in BR at the same time, so that pull was kind of unavoidable and he almost felt like he had to try it.

Lane has never been an NFL guy. A crazy old Al Davis through a vault at him as a 31 year old at a time when college to NFL coaching changes were trend, so he said why not.

The 20 games that make up his NFL experience were even worse than Saban’s, and that trauma sent his career on a decade long tailspin that he has spent another decade correcting.

Hate to break it to the rest of CFB, but Lane and LSU are a perfect match, and he is going to be here for a very long time and win a whole lot of games and hardware
