'73 Byrd graduate. A lot of great football players out of Shreveport during that time. Captain Shreve, Byrd, Fair Park and Jesuit.

Class of 73 at Airline here. Lost to Neville @ Neville by one point.
You had Bo Harris and we had Jack Tuttle at tight end. Both were great,
Bo went to the NFL and Jack died in a construction accident over the summer......So sad
We had a couple of guys that went to the NFL but we will never know what Jack could have been if he didn't die.

I knew a few guys in the Airline class of 73. I was in the Shreve class of 73. I was a sophomore on Bo's team also had Roland Harper on that team how played in NFL for the Bears.

That group was a year behind me that won state. My sophomore year and junior year we had teams that could have won state and missed an extra point on last play of game to beat State Champ Neville in first round.

I was good friends with many of the Byrd players who grad. in 73. 2 who signed with LSU and one who I went to SMU with.

My Uncle Bill went to Capt Shreve the year it opened, class of 68’. He Transferred from Byrd for his senior year. I tease him and say how could you do that? I would have stayed loyal to Byrd and my friends:
He always laughs and says Shreve had air conditioning!!
Oddly enough I was attending Byrd in 85 when they finally remodeled and installed air conditioning.

That was a big deal in 68. There were a lot of kids that could have stayed at Byrd but opted for the AC.

I was a freshman at Byrd in 1969 and remembering having to make the choice. It was the right one. One thing about the 1973 season, Captain Shreve and Airline were great that year, but Byrd went 8-2 with the only losses to Shreve and Airline, and sat at home for the playoffs. That wouldn't have happened by today's rules,

I went to University Elementary in fall of 69, the first year it was opened. Fully air conditioned and integrated. It was a whole new world.
