evidence is his 9 for 15 on attempted steals, nola, in limited action, 2 for 3

but i was also told by one of the football players that Leon was the 3rd fastest on the team.

So who is he faster than, Mahtook, Mitchell, Schimpf, Dishon, McGhee?

i disagree, but still, he isn't the 3rd fastest guy on the team, don't know where these rumors start

Josh, I am not gonna get into the rehashed question of who is faster than who, but I don't think you can look at stolen base % as an indication of how fast someone is. Better at stealing bases, yes, but not speed. His name escapes me now, but the Astros had an outfielder back in the 90's that was indeed fast as shite, but he could not steal a base for shite.

What good is Nola's speed if he can't get a hit? Are we comparing their walk back to the dugout?

oh, agreed, just think it is 1 example to show the gap isn't as wide as some think, part of it is speed

Gradman, I'm not really sure why this thread has once again devolved into a who is faster argument. This reminds me of the time I was with some friends at The Chimes a few years back and the conversation turned to who was the fastest. After several beers, a couple of guys went out to Chimes Street to settle it. One of the guys busted his arse on the asphalt. Why they didn't go to the Parade Ground instead of running on the street, I don't know. May have been the beers.

Wow! I guess we should replace Dean with Dozar to add power to the line up too?

Personally, I wouldn't touch the middle infield.

If Landry was a .350 type hitter with power, then maybe you'd give up the defense for the bat.

But, I wouldn't do it for a guy who has been pretty bad for the majority of the year.

And, while Shimpf was a solid 2nd baseman, I think LeMahieu is clearly better there. That's not a knock on Shimpf.

completely disagree. LeMahieu waits back way too much on ground balls, which explains our inability to turn 2 when he was at ss

I disagree.

I think LeMahieu has much softer hands, a stronger arm, and can turn over the double play better than Shimpf. I also think LeMahieu has exceptional range to his left.

In what ways do you think Shimpf is better?

better range, quicker release, arm is just as strong, good with the glove, makes less errors than Lemahieu

I disagree. LeMahieu will get to and make more plays IMO.

quicker release

Probably true, but not as big a factor at 2nd base compared to SS.

arm is just as strong

I don't agree with that at all.

good with the glove

LeMahieu is clearly better IMO.

Yet to be seen at 2nd base. Comparing Shimpf at 2nd to Lemahieu at SS is apples and oranges. I think Lemahieu will be extremely solid at 2nd.

I'll also add that LeMahieu has superior footwork.

The bottom line is I think LeMahieu makes plays at 2nd that Shimpf wouldn't.

I watched two friends settle a speed debate in much the same manner at a bar-b-q. Instead of walking 100 feet to an open field they chose to settle it on concrete. The winner fell at the end and it wasn't pretty. Definitely the beers.
