Mike DeTillier (sp?) was on an Atlanta sports talk show this evening and reported that Miles brought in 71 yr old Larry Lacewell to help with prep for the GA Tech game. Lacewell coached defense at Oklahoma during the wishbone/option days and worked with Miles on the Cowboys staff.

Miles is the dumbest coach alive, haven't you heard???

Wow what can you say. I agree Miles is a big dumb arse. That is so stupid to bring in a Defensive consultant that was part of the demise of the triple option. What depths of stupidity will he sink to next.

Ok...to all you morons...the triple option hasn't changed since the 70's! That offense is all about repetition. Ask JT CURTIS...he has won 23 State Championships with a total offensive play book of 12 plays...count them 12...i know cause i have talked to him one on one about it.... So y not call in a coach who might have some insight into it..
All you Miles haters are the same ones that were complaining about Saban when he won a title...and we could have a guy win Back to Back to Back to Back titles and you people will still find something to b..ch about!! Get a life and a job!!

You guys probably don't know anything about Larry Lacewell. He was a pretty darn good college football coach back in the day. Being from Memphis, I remember when he used to bring then I-AA Arkansas State to play Memphis. Memphis really sucked at the time, but it was pretty rare for any I-A team to lose to I-AA. He won at least one of thise games, because I was there as a kid and it REALLY sucked. His ASU teams were prerinial playoff contenders back then. I know its I-AA, but he was a good coach, and Memphis was extremely stupid for not hiring him away in the 80s. If Miles brings him in, then I'm sure he will be a positive contributor. Not that any of you would know.

Coached at Tennessee and Dallas, also. If I remember correctly he left Oklahoma under the shadow of some type of scandal, possibly involving some of Switzer's indiscretions...which I won't repeat.

The Georgia Tech guys are saying he coached Arkansas State to a playoff victory over Paul Johnson's Georgia Southern way back in the day.

If this is true, it's a good move. There is no "gimmick" to this offense, it is old-fashioned smash-mouth football. I love it.
The difficulty is getting guys who are used to flying to the ball, to ignore their instinct, be patient and play position ball. That is hard, especially when these guys have been recruited to play D partially based on their instinctiveness. It's even harder to do when you cannot replicate the speed and adjustments that the O will play with. But it can be done, and if anyone can do it, Lacewell can, from all appearances.

Uh, you have it backwards. 48-21 GSU over Arkansas St back in 1986, in the National Championship game.
PJ was OC at the time.

Who the frick are you talking to homie? No one on here is bashing Miles for this BRILLINAT move. My post is sarcasm to all the idiots that constantly want to bring up how "dumb" of a coach he is. You need to chill out and spend more time at YOUR job chief.

Lacewell was the DC at Oklahoma in the Switzer haydays. They ran the triple option as well as it has ever been run, and they could defend it too, as Nebraska was pretty good themselves. LeRoy Selmon was a great defensive lineman. Brian Bosworth was a pretty good linebacker. I believe they both played for him if I remember correctly, and they had to tackle Billy Sims in practice. Yea, I believe Lacewell would know the triple option and ways you might stop it. I'm glad he came!
