I have umpired travel ball for several years. USSSA has a rule that says something like a kid can pitch 3 complete innings on Saturday and then another 3 complete innings on Sunday. That might not sound bad, but some of these innings are between 20-30 pitches. Let’s take the middle and say 25 pitches per inning times 3 innings times twice per weekend times 10 weekends per travel ball season times 5 years of playing travel ball between the ages of 9 and 13.....that equals 7,500 pitches just in travel ball, not counting pitches at practice or warm ups or lessons or at home, and haven’t even counted high school for 4 years. Kids’ arms at that age CAN NOT handle that much pitching.

Paul Maineiri's "seat" is not even warm much less hot. His huge (for baseball) buyout guarantees he stays in this position for at least 2 more seasons. No Omaha in 2020 or 2021 and his seat will warm up as his buyout diminishes.

I cannot fathom we will have as many injuries to starters at crucial moments as we did this year. We all noticed the pitchers being out, but remember we played multiple weeks without Cabrera and then Watkins and no Garza behind the plate and even Reid missed a couple of weeks.

complete bull shite. It’s about use. All new freshmen coming in just need to throw that summer after high school and NOT IN THE FALL OUTSIDE OF STAYING CONDITIONED. Not overusing his arm.

No sir this is bullshite. I personally know of 3 fall and travel ball kids that have arm issues as we speak, with one possibly needing surgery at 13.

Talk to a couple of people that have inside scoop and they all say the same. Lack of arm conditioning in the fall and then prior to the season starting have been the biggest cause of the injuries. Let’s hope this is a start to getting that corrected?

So a couple of people have figured out what some of the top doctors around the country can’t pinpoint?

Or is this only in reference to LSU?

Where is the link and how is this different than what was posted from the press conference yesterday? You know, other than the obvious exaggeration here:

there will be plenty of turnover on the roster

Most LSU fans, myself included would have been surprised and somewhat angered if there wasn't a large turnover from an LSU team whose batting average was near last in the SEC.

This is absolutely the right move imo. Our pitching staff needs to rest, but also ramp up strength and conditioning for injury prevention purposes. I'd prefer that they really limit the pitchers in the fall, too. They may start the season a bit slow, even piecing games together because of pitch counts...but that shouldn't be a problem. I want the cupboard fully stocked for the home stretch. With our staff fully healthy, we would be in Omaha right now...and we'll be in Omaha next year if we're healthy.

and I know a kid that is going to offered this year by many many D1 universities including TAMU, DBU, and others. There is little evidence that they are doing that with him. You know why? They monitor his pitch count. His father is involved with tracking his pitches.

Just talk to people whose sons are part of travel ball. You’ll learn that the best pitchers do most of the heavy lifting in games, most of the work, probably too much work. Need a final out or two call on your ace. These games have gotten serious but now look at all the injuries. They linger, never really get addressed. Sure LSU is getting some of the best pitchers but they nearly all come in with injuries.
