The guy isn’t coaching right now. Look at the joke the cowboys defense has become since he’s been gone. There is no reason LSU can’t get a jump on it and bring him in. He’s a younger defensive mind that has only helped produce good defenses. I don’t understand how this wasn’t the hire made in the offseason. Every week as I watch the cowboys defense it’s clear that the guy is a high level defensive coach.

I really think Orgeron is trying to bring guys in that he doesn’t have to worry about losing. Richard would be a guy who leaves in a couple years but who gives a damn.

He could be a DC in waiting. It just seems like such an obvious idea that I don’t understand how it’s not even being considered. There were rumblings in the offseason about him being a candidate. Too bad we didn’t bring him in because this defense would look much better.

He still has negative marks in his past and the moment his defense gives up a first down the rant will tell you how “he sucks and O is just hiring former USC people to try and be Pete Carrol 2.0”

The response will be, “but he’s unemployed so he must be terrible.” Lot of great coaches aren’t where they should be. Nobody knew who joe Brady was until a year ago.

Alternate universe and LSU does not convert on 3rd and 17 at Texas:

The rant - “why did we go get a wide receiver coach that was an analyst for the saints and is only 29 years old and kept E? We are LSU we should have gotten (name any coordinator that the rant loved at that moment)”

Isnt this why everyone was against hiring Linehan?

At any rate, a proven commodity like Richard being unemployed is a bit different than an unknown commodity like Joe Brady not being a coach.

I don’t see why he wouldn’t be considered to bring in as an analyst, if Richard is even interested in that. His style would also have to fit with what we are trying to do

It’s not about being unemployed it’s about money

Underrated part of your post. I respect the heck outta Coach O, but Brady leaving last year caught him off guard, then pissed him off.

Every normal human being needs and appreciates stability. Coach O went/is going through a personal messy situation and simultaneously was LSU with coaches/players leaving and then COVID happens. Then you lose to Miss St. Then Kentucky shuts out Miss St.

The rest of the season will prove what LSU has or doesn’t have.

But Saban has survived with instability and thrived. This ability is part of the formula for extended greatness. If O and LSU are to exist in the top ranks, we will have to reach that standard.
