The thing most of you are missing is, I don't think Kirk Ferentz sucks. I just think good and even great coaches can make mistakes or have bad luck. Some times recruits don't work out or you make bad calls or decisions. I just want us to support our coach and the team instead of jumping off the ship.

You can always tell a clueless LSU sports fan; the only thing they can think of to improve team performance is to fire a coach.

unless hiring him meant all of LSU's players were replaced by Iowa's players why on earth would you think he would have lost at LSU over that same time span?
Iowa has a smaller population than La and no where near the HS talent base and another BCS school in state.
Go check out Saban's record at Mich State then compare to Ferentz at Iowa, KF has done much better.

I don't know what Ferentz would have done at LSU. I am just saying, he had a program going in the right direction and then it went south. Now is looks like it is heading back in the right direction.
Once again, I am not implying Ferentz sucks. But he had a program that appeared to be on the up swing and then it went south under his watch. Once again, not saying he sucks but if he would have done that here this board would have been calling for his head.

This is a crazy thread. I work with an Iowa grad and they have been trying to get rid of Kirk Ferentz for 4 years. The Iowa faithful keep wishing someone else would hire him. Granted, they can beat Penn State, but I guarantee they will lose to a lesser opponent. They always do. I always thought Coach Kirk was a good coach until I started following Iowa over the last 8 years and I now feel otherwise. We are way better off with Les than Kirk. No doubt about it!

He'd get a lot more leeway building up a struggling program than taking over an established program.

Haydon Frey was there for more than 2 decades. Iowa was really good in the 80's amd early 90's. The CFB world is much different now. During Frey's peak they got lots of talent from Texas where he had connections.

Dude....
Look up Iowa HS football. They have possibly one 4* a year and a couple of 3*...s Most of the players they recruit are projects. They actually have to develop their recruits. They don't come to Iowa game ready.

This is hyperbole I'm sure. Ferentz posted 10 win seasons in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
