I would be depressed if LSU hired a coach in his 60s. Why would anyone, unless it was a Nick Saban?

The goal is points. And LSU, this decade, has finished in the top 25 nationally in points just twice (17th in 2011 and 23rd in 2013).

Comparing LSU stats to LSU only tells you that LSU has missed the Offensive Evolution Revolution. They are a team that can churn out Box Score stats but at the end of the day a 80th ranked Scoring Offense is going to win nothing.

LSU Key Offensive Rankings 2010-2016

Look at the Pace of Play or "Plays" per game ranking of 120th and 125th. LSU ranked 90th in Plays in 2013, taking the ball out of the hands of Beckham, Hill, Mett, and Landry. Tempo is absolutely essential and LSU is dead last.

The problem here is philosophical. The goal of an offense, as we mentioned above, is to score points. But LSU is using its efficiency not to drive down the field and light up the scoreboard but to instead prevent turnovers.

Know who turns the ball over a lot? Teams that take risks.

a hunh even when successful can put your defense on the field very quickly.

the amount of plays ran isnt nearly as important as the yards gained during each play.

offense a: 400 yards on 50 plays
offense b: 410 yards on 60 plays

Offense A was more productive when the ball was snapped.

and again im not trying to say our offense didnt struggle at time under miles.

And missed two in 2006 and 2011 that had O been coach instead of Miles we wouldn't have missed. Not to mention, that the only way we won in 2007 was because of a miracle and because Nick Saban had recruited those players.

ed orgeron hasnt even proven he can win more than 2 conference games a season on a consistent basis.

That's such a lame excuse for why nobody will hire that incompetent.

In fact, Herm Edwards, who is the same age as Miles and who has been out of the coaching game for years and who has never coached college football in his life just got hired by Arizona State. Yet Miles with that outstanding record of his can't get hired. Why? Obviously because everyone outside his homers knows that Miles didn't earn his record because he was a drag on the football program.

Ed Orgeron is an astronomically far better coach than Les Miles ever was and will ever be.

then why has he not been able to get a job anywhere except as a position coach for 29 of his 32 year career?

you say miles not being hired in the last 15 months proves he is a shite coach yet O couldnt get a head coaching offer for 29 damn years.

miles tenure at

most top 5 finish in lsu history
best win % in lsu history
best ooc win % in lsu history
no program beat more ranked teams
no program was ranked in the top 25 more weeks
no program reached # 1 on the country more times than lsu
he has the 7th best win % in sec history
he has the best ooc win % in sec history
lsu had as many top 10 finishes as the previous 40 seasons combined
as many top 5 finishes as saban, mac and dietzel combined

if thats what you call a drag on the program then i hope every coach in lsu history is a drag on the program.

you have to realize that your responding to a poster that says O was unjustly fired at ole miss and his tenure wasnt bad there.

LSU has been top 25 in YPP in three of the past four years and only once in 20-plus yard plays (2013). Not surprisingly, those are the same three seasons in the past four that S&P also has LSU as a top 25 offense. LSU has been efficient, gaining a bunch of yards per play, but the explosiveness and more importantly, the points, haven’t come.

The goal is points. And LSU, this decade, has finished in the top 25 nationally in points just twice (17th in 2011 and 23rd in 2013).

If you mean in terms of gumbo recipes, or ability to clap and say "let's go" and standing there with his microphone up around his head, yes he's far better than Miles. Winning games, not so much.

how about points per play?

also, show me all these great defensive teams that are also top 25 in ppg.
there is no question that under miles we were a ball controlled defense 1st team. that philosophy led to one of the most accomplished tenures in sec history, let alone lsu history.

during Miles' tenure we finished in the top 40 in ppg 7 times.
thats not bad considering we were a ball controlled team that dodnt run HUNH. that means we were pretty successful once the ball was snapped

Well it doesn't take any great deduction to conclude if you are SLOW, Run Fewest Plays, Score Fewest Pts, and have HUGE TOP that your PPP sucks...1/2 of ALA, 1/3 of CLEM.

LSU keeps churning out good ratings according to the stats, but the advanced stats are wrong. LSU has not had a productive offense.

The Offensive Identity and Play Calling has stifled the team.

The pace in recent years has become positively glacial. The past three seasons, LSU has been one of the slowest teams in the nation, taking over 200 fewer offensive snaps than the average team. Fewer bites out of the apple on offense is insane because you have to run plays to score points.

So back to the premise of this thread: Kiffin jokes about Miles and LSU not Scoring Pts. FAU was 3rd in the Nation in PPG in Conference Play, 45.4, vs LSU 26 PPG or 71st. His point, though offensive to some, was dead on.
