In 2009, Mawae was ranked fifth in a Sports Illustrated poll of "dirty players". The magazine surveyed 296 NFL players to come up with the ranking.[8] Mawae was quoted on the Titans' site as saying he was "proud" of the recognition because he plays the game hard, but conceded, "I’ve been known to leg whip a time or two. I've paid the price for those, both physically and in the pocket

#1 Reason he should become our coach, straight up Nasty.

Let's just hire Stud back since it's a bullshite position anyway.

I wasn't saying that it was a bullshite position...I'm saying that I would think that someone like Mawae, with his credentials, is more qualified to teach offensive lineman than someone that started 2 years at Bowling Green and the only award he ever received was "outstanding attitude toward Falcon football". I would rather an all american player with 16 yrs playing in the NFL and no coaching experience over someone with coaching experience that can teach them how to have a great attitude.

No. I've been more on your side than not in this thread, but you've kinda gone full tard on us in a few of your posts.

Because he was hired to do so? I'm wondering what this has to do with anything.

I didn't read through all of this, did he actually get an interview, or just ask for one? Thanks!

Other than the QB, the center probably watches the most film and has to be "in" the game at all times. In his 16 years you don't think he's shown more than few players a thing or two or six? You don't think he could watch 18-22yr olds and say you're doing it wrong you need to do it this way and then show them exactly how to do it?

Wouldn't mind this at all. It's a risk since he never had coaching experience but can it really be that hard to coach what knowledge you have about technique and protection schemes? Anything would be an upgrade over Stud I'd imagine. I'll bet he'd light fires on the recruiting trail knowing an all-pro lineman is coaching you up. He's from LSU too so you know laziness wouldn't fly. I know he would be very passionate about his job.

I think you're trying to imply that I think we should have kept Stud. Couldn't be further from the truth.

Perfectly stated. Especially for a guy that is obviously able to communicate well enough that his peers name him as their top representative.

My only question would be, why hasn't he done it yet?

EARTH TO JIM..........he played in the NFL up until 2010 then worked for the NFLPA.....then did charity work and then some minor stent with Vandy maybe?

He hasn't had much spare time to coach up amateurs........

He's only 42/43. He's had small stints working with lsu, vandy, and the bills. He played until he was like 37/38. Maybe he wanted a few years to recover from rigors of a 16 year nfl career.

It goes to show, you don't need to know a lot to be a position coach at the college level. Mawae experience trumps even Les Miles as an Olineman.

Which is reason I don't think he gets job, and it goes to a michigan man.
