Well, knowing the position is one condition necessary for being a college position coach. It's not the only condition. Ability and experience with teaching and demonstrating (coaching) is also an important condition.

This story is from a personal friend who knows Kevin directly. That said, take it for what its worth...
I heard that he was on campus in the last year or so and stopped by practice. The OL were in their group but they were dicking around just throwing the football back and forth. Not doing much at all. He took the opportunity to ask them to show him some of their moves, this technique versus that technique etc.
Supposedly the OL looked at him like he was from another planet.
Moral of the story, a pro bowler came in an within 5 minutes was teaching NFL caliber technique to our OL that they had never heard of.
If that is true, I'd like to give him a season or two to see what he can do.

And here is my point, anybody who has been doing something at a high level(the top 1% of the 1% )can do this is........thats what makes them the best.

Can he coach? I'm sure he can
Can he recruit? Name alone will bring in recruits
Does he want to spend time away from his family? No clue

Which is kind of my point. Is this a job he wants because he's ready to be a full time coach or is it because he wants to be involved with football, but still stay close to his family.
He does not need the money, he loves LSU, and is one of the best ever and a future HOFer.
It shows me that he is here to stay and would not be a threat EVER to bolt and leave for another position at another university.
We need stability. The line draft position is being used negatively against us. His name will help all aspects of that on the recruiting trail.

I don't doubt his coaching ability at all, someone of his level knows how to play the game and I'm sure as he became a vet he helped out his younger teammates. His incredible NFL career, LSU ties, and his experience with being heavily involved in the NFLPA meaning he should know better then most how to set up kids for success in the NFL should all work well in recruiting. It's a risk cause he's unknown as a coach, but I'd hire him without thinking as an O-line coach

So you don't think Kevin Mawae would be able to demonstrate and teach these kids? He would absolutely have their attention.

I never ever said that. I said we don't know. If we can get a guy that we KNOW has had success teaching, developing and molding offensive linemen at a high level, why would we hire Mawae? Sure he might be a great hire, but he also might not be.

On the surface, I don't know that I like hiring someone with zero coaching experience to coach up the most imporant unit on the field. Let's see how it all plays out. If he says the right things and Les/Cam are on board, I'm on board.
as somebody said yesterday, "what he said."

Sweet hyperbole, brah

So why does Ensminger coach TE's? This is why Mawae with his 16 years of playing the position is qualified.

I think my point went over your head. I'm not worried how committed he is to LSU. I'd be worried how committed he is to coaching at this level. There's a lot of work, outside of teaching footwork and technique, that goes into being a college coach.
Here's what worries me. He's interned at Vanderbilt while living down the road, he coached o-line for his son's high school team, and he was part of a coaching fellowship program for the Bills during one training camp. Is he ready to take on the time commitment that comes with being a college coach?

Well, that's great. If you look back at my posts, I've said that if Cam/Les are on board with him, I am too. All I've been saying this entire time is that he is that if there are guys available with experience and a proven record of success in developing and teaching offensive linemen, we need to exhaust those options before we take what could be a risk in hiring Mawae.

Do you even know what a center does?
He snaps the ball to the QB. What do I win?
In that case, why do we need an Oline coach? Eliiot Porter will take over. Amirite?

He was voted as one of the leagues dirtiest players, something he was proud of. If he got the job, which I doubt, would CLM relate to that type of play? I wonder if CLM was a dirty player on the OL?

Uh... A bit more complicated than that, bruh. He's the QB of the offensive line.
