I am in no way saying Mawae won’t be a good coach he just doesn’t have the experience yet. If LSU needed a DB coach and O hired Ed Reed for the position would you be ok with that? Are you wanting Mawae to be the coach because he has the coaching chops or because he was a great player and happened to play for LSU. Anyone that wants him to be the coach right now is because of option two. Which is fine if that’s what you think just own it because we simply don’t know if he is a good coach or not yet.
There are some other differences in your comparison. Mawae is in the coaching field and has voiced his opinion/desire to coach at LSU. Maybe even interviewed here if I recall correctly. Reed has never coached anything that im aware of. Also Mawae has the leadership and attitude that makes people think he will make a great coach. So its more than just being an LSU homer- although that is part of it. I like to see former LSU players succeed and I like to see them succeed at LSU. It has been my thinking and hope that Mawae is doing a few stints elsewhere to get seasoned and then will one day come back to LSU when he is ready. Possibly our next OLine coach. I don't see how Kevin faulk is anymore qualified than Mawae, but I would like to see these guys have success elsewhere before coming here, not coming here to learn how to coach.

I am fine with that. My problem is the people thinking he should be hired tomorrow when you have a coach on staff hat has only been here a year with way more coaching and recruiting experience

Kevin Faulk is director of player personnel he is not an on field coach. I would be fine with Mawae coming here tomorrow for an analyst or off field position.

why do you think he is absolutely capable of success at LSU right now
because his HOF career was largely based upon his play and understanding as a technician of the game. Kevin knows tricks of the trade Cregg doesn't OR hasn't applied himself.
Oline coaching is one position that actually lends itself to former hands-on playing experience.
Then there's is aptitude and leadership skills which are unquestioned. Having the kids buy in to your system (and effort) is 80% of the battle.
If we were discussing an OC, I'd say you're correct. But, we aren't. Kevin would make a very very effective oline coach.

Two very different personalities and aptitudes.
While I truly respect Faulk, he isn't in the area of Kevin's managerial skill set.
Where we are today, Kevin is ready.

Kevin is absolutely capable of SUCCESSFULLY coaching at LSU now. The argument against is not valid anymore.
Don’t agree. Not all players, even inspirational ones, make good coaches. He may in time, I just don’t think he fits right now.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe O was the only LSU coach who passed on him. Didn’t Miles as well?
